All employees are not created equal. We all learn at different speeds and through different methods. Whether it is OJT, an apprenticeship/internship, traditional lecture, online learning or simulations; training employees is crucial to organizational success. Sufficient funding should be placed in the training budget to ensure a satisfying return on investment (ROI). Through my adult life, I have encountered most, if not all of the methods of training that many organizations use today. Companies are in the business of making profits, and the cost of training is always a consideration during economic hardships when trying to save money. Let us think for a second about other training that takes place in an organization. The company that I work for has several online training courses (typically webinars) that range from compliance to employee/management development. Should this type of training be cut from the budget or increased? These training topics will aid employees on a better communication and how to deal with one another in a more civilized and professional manner. Employees are undeniably any organizations life blood and to reduce that investment is to reduce the organization. Based off of my experience in the military, the various combination of trainings I was subjected to, enable my personal and professional life to be easier. I don’t have a shred of doubt that this is attributed to the quarterly and annual trainings required by hirer authority.
