After the taxes were set in place, the colonists began to get very upset and began to have meetings about, what they would do to either be able to survive after the new British legislature being passed or what they would do to retaliate against the British control. The British continued to pass more and more laws that the colonists abhorred because the laws made their lives incredibly more expensive and much harder. One of the new laws was that they could not meet in private anymore so that they could not plot to revolt and try for independence. Another piece of legislature put into practice by the British Parliament was the tax on tea. This tax made the colonists furious and they decided to disguise themselves as Native Americans and unload…
The British implemented many different taxes and acts that the colonists believed were unfair such as the Stamp, Tea and Intolerable acts which increased british control that led to the start of the Revolutionary War. First off we have the Stamp act which was instituted in the year of 1764. Not only was this the first act the british imposed onto the colonists it also caused a lot of hate. Now look at Document 2, the importation graph for Britain. When you look at the year 1764 when the Stamp act was first put into action the importation rates decreased.…
The colonies overreacted to the British policies. For example, the Tea Act gave them a right to sell directly to the colonies. The colonists interpreted this as a sneaky way of gaining colonial support of taxes. They saw this as “taxation without representation” since they couldn't buy tea from anyone else without having to pay more money. The Sons of Liberty led by Samuel Adams, organized the Boston Tea Party to protest British rule.…
6. Boston Tea Party and the reactions in colonies and parliament The Tea Act of May1773 was enacted for the purpose of providing economic aid to the East India Company. High import fees led to the smuggling of non-Britain goods (Dutch tea) which subsequently resulted in the East India Company going into debt and holding a big surplus of tea that no one would buy. Since Britain needed this company they were given a loan and the cancelled the import fees.…
1. Representative Assembly is best defined as a legislature that is composed of individuals who represent the population. The way that this assembly helped to set up for further colonies is because the representative assembly are individuals that represent a population. They had settled in Plymouth (Massachusetts) and knew that some sort of civil obedience had to be established. So they came up with the Mayflower Compact as a way to establish order in their “society” and as a way to submit to authority.…
2 The Boston Tea Party occurred as a result of “Taxation without representation” which means that the Imperial Government imposed taxes on the people without the their authority. The British unreasonably taxing the American Colonies to pays for expenses during the war between French and Indian. When the Britain found out that the American…
After the French and Indian War ended, the British started imposing taxes and passing acts on the colonist because they were in debt after the war. The American colonists could not do anything about this because up until the American Revolution, Great Britain controlled America.. America, being a new place where people thought they could be free, was in turmoil. There were secret meetings against the British; people were ready to stand against the taxes and the new laws being passed.. Some of these laws, called the Acts of Parliament, were the the Sugar Act, the Currency Act, Stamp Act, and the Quartering Act.…
“The American Revolution grew out of Britain’s attempts to draw its American colonists more closely into the imperial system” (164). Colonists challenged Britains supreme Parliament by debating that these pieces of legislation violated British governments constitutionalism. The colonists also rejected the Townsend Revenue Act (1767) slowly but surely. The Townshend Acts taxed import duties on lead, paint, glass, paper, and tea. Charles Townshend thought that colonists would not reject an external tax since revenue would be used to support colonial officials.…
Again, one of the actions the king took that was destructive or really angered the colonists is that he taxed them. In document A, it says that this angered the colonists because they thought only their own assemblies should be able to tax them. This caused the colonists to riot, protest, and boycott. Because of the riots and boycotts, the Townshend Acts were passed, putting taxes on all imported goods from Britain, also…
Around the 1770s, the Townshend Acts caused many problems for the colonists at the time, and this helped the Revolutionary War happen. The Townshend Acts were named after Charles Townshend. He was known as a Chancellor of the Exchequer, chief treasurer of British Empire who's in charge or economic and financial matters. Townshend created the Acts because after the repeal of the Stamp Act, money was needed to pay off expenses from the French and Indian War.…
The british were defending the colonists in this war and took their money as payment. What upset the colonists so much was not so much the tax, as it was the British were coming in and trying to take…
Britain was deep in debt from foreign wars and needed the colonies to start helping with expenses. Another goal of tax increases for the British was to demonstrate to the colonists who was in control. It is possible the American colonists may have agreed to certain tax increases had they been allowed to participate in the decision making. Like their British brethren, the colonists wanted the ability to vote on taxes.…
The colonists believed Britain was trying to stifle their growth and slowly take away the freedom they had. One consequence of the tea tax was the Boston Tea Party, which resulted in a loss of profit for Britain. The colonists in America did not believe in the Virtual Representation Prime Minister Grenville claimed they had. If Britain had given the colonists representatives in Parliament it would have appeased them and a huge conflict might not have occurred. The irony was that British representatives could have easily outvoted the Colonial representatives in Parliament.…
The real problem was that at this time in American history tea was as important a commodity to colonists as it was to the people of England and it felt like Britain wad over stepping it grounds. If England could tax something so important to society such as tea, then it set a standard that they could tax anything and no one could stop them. It was outrageous to the colonists and even to smugglers and tea merchants whose profits would lessen because of the cheaper tea given to them. This is way, as I mentioned before, the Boston tea party happened. The Boston tea party was essentially a bunch of radical revolutionaries dressed up as Indians that were so feed up with the Tea Act that at Boston harbor they dumped what would be today four-million dollars worth of tea into the harbor.…
