Reflective Essay: The Seven Habits Profile

Improved Essays
According to the Seven Habits Profile, my strongest habit, with a score of 16, is “Be Proactive.” Being proactive means thinking about the task at hand and making a choice on how to handle the task based on principles and not on emotions. I do feel I am proactive in my job and my everyday life. In the Seven Habits Profile, I do feel that I answered these questions honestly. I have learned, in my current position, it is better to focus on what I can change in myself and try to worry less about what I cannot change, like those outside of my department. We are all human, and I feel to keep my integrity, I have to take responsibility for my actions. I have no problem acknowledging when I make a mistake and accepting the consequence. I value my principles and know we all make mistakes. We need to recognize our mistakes and use them as learning opportunities. The other habits I scored “very good” on were the following: Begin with the end in mind, think win-win and synergize. With a score of 14 on each of these habits, I feel strongly about all of them. “Begin with the end in mind” is very much like being proactive. You have to think about the outcome of the task or problem you are working on and how to get to the solution before you put it in action. With every new project or task, I need to look at the whole picture and what the outcome should be and how …show more content…

After I read the 7 habits book, I started to know that I don’t actually have an appropriate balance among the various aspects of my life (family, friends, work, and so forth). I started to know this as I read the RBA (relationship bank account) pages. I came to know that about me because in the RBA section, RBA deposits and RBA withdrawals, I read the RBA deposits and I didn’t fit into all of them, but as I read the RBA withdrawals I came to know that I fitted into almost everything like Break promises, Talk too much, and Keep to yourself. I always do these kind of stuff to my friends, peers, and my best friends which makes it harder to keep up with my relationships. In the habit 4 worksheet, I had a lot of situations that relates to win- lose and lose- win attitude which I could have easily changed to a win- win situation, but I didn’t…

A wise African-American author named Howard Thurman once said, “There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself... and if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.” There are two keys to becoming your best self: the ability to listen and the seven habits of effective people. Habits one through four focus on oneself; they are habits that help an individual find what is important in his or her life and how to maintain and prioritize those things. Habits five through seven are external habits that challenge individuals to optimize their interaction with individuals and vice versa. Thurman’s statement says that the only way to gain full control…

The style of leadership that comes closest to my own is the Priest. This is logical since I was brought up through my formative years in the military. Working in an environment that prepares for the possibility of war, there luxury of allowing countless opinions and input is not feasible. There has to be a strong chain of command that issues orders and expects them to be followed. Command and Control are essential to winning in a war, just as priests employ structure and order.…
