Lately, with the high rise of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States gun control, gun laws, and the Second Amendment have been a prevalent controversial topic amongst many. The Second amendment word for word states: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The Second Amendment has been interpreted in many different ways, but it serves one specific purpose. If you read the federalist papers, you will understand the thought process of our founding fathers as they wrote the constitution bill of rights. This essential freedom ensures that our government will never become so oppressive that the very lives of all its citizenry would be in jeopardy. It is for this reason that forces intent on diminishing, and ultimately eliminating the Second Amendment, wish to do so. As an observer of history, a student of the constitution, and a politically savvy citizen I am continually alarmed by the ease with which some of my fellow citizens would give up this right for the false sense of security from whatever the most recent crisis is involving a gun, and shame on them for not understanding the purpose of the Second Amendment. There are those who continually whittle away at the Second Amendment with assault weapon bans, magazine capacity bans, other various gun restrictions and gun carry restrictions. There were no bans by our colonial government of any kind, and citizens were allowed to own, and carry whatever the state of the art weaponry was at the time. When one considers the intent of the Second Amendment, it is clear that restraining our weaponry serves but one purpose; to further the goals of leaders who wish to disarm the citizenry to make us as sheep ready for the slaughter
