The profession I chose to look into was law enforcement. My interest for law enforcement grew mainly because of all the crime shows that are on television now. Whenever a new show would come on, that is about investigating and solving crimes I would watch it. Those shows sparked an interest in me to want to pursue a career in law enforcement. I got this interest from watching crime shows such as CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, and NCIS. After deciding that I wanted to be in Law Enforcement I learned about the many opportunities that are available at the local, state, and federal level.

After the interview, I realized that there are a lot of steps to get into law enforcement. For Michigan State Police, there is a twelve step process before you get to the training academy. There are three separate applications that have to be filled out first, and then come a physical fitness test, a background investigation, a background interview, a psychological test, and a drug test. All of that is before you are chosen to go through the police academy. During the academy there is a lot of physical training; such as running every morning, weight lifting, and swimming. Also, there is a lot of classroom instruction. The process is even longer for federal law enforcement. After the interview, I asked him does read or have any magazines or journals on law enforcement. His response was that most officers don’t read magazines on law enforcement. Most police officers have to go through training at least twice a …show more content…
Because of the mass casualty incidents, the need for the safe, effective, and coordinated response of law enforcement and EMS responders has been organized in many parts of the United States. The training was chosen to be held in New York for many reasons. One reason is, that fifteen years after 9/11, New York State continues to be identified as one of the most likely targets of terrorism in the United States. (Turley, Dudley, and Bart 32-35) The other reason was because of the State Preparedness Training Center is located in New York. This training center provides multidisciplinary training opportunities to first responders. There they have their own city used just for training. During the training, police and EMS would train side-by-side as they were actually responding to a mass casualty incident or active shooter.
