The Importance Of The Online Learning Environment

There are many false concepts surrounding the online learning environment, so if someone tells you online learning is not equivalent to attending the average brick and mortar school, then they do not have experience learning in an online classroom. This was my experience before attending the virtual classroom through the University of Phoenix and earning my associates degree with a concentration in the criminal justice field entirely online. In my online experience, all of the required materials were provided in the virtual environment. For example, textbooks were supplied in pdf format, learning materials were supplied through University online learning activities, links to YouTube videos, and materials found in the online library. These classes were especially helpful in learning APA format, researching reliable resources, understanding the online library and the resources available to me at a moment’s notice through the Center of Math and Writing Excellence section of website. In addition, to making me aware that my classmates and instructors were available through email, telephone, and the classroom forum to help answer any questions or concern that I may have had. Having my classmates, instructors, 24-hour helplines, and online resources were vital in my learning experience and knowing that I was not alone in my …show more content…
It does not go without saying that there are times of frustration and interruptions. As an online student, I learned to take breaks, manage school, and family obligations before and after work. Quite frankly, this meant setting obtainable goals and utilizing time management skills. This was accomplished by reading over the syllabus, messages from my instructors, and the required course material and learning activities before completing each assignment as a scheduled task. To enhance my experience as an online student, I discussed my goals of obtaining my education with my family and friends who offered the moral support I needed to obtain my degree. Therefore, through the support of the my family, friends and the University, I was able to earn my degree with a 3.95 grade point average in math, English, humanities, science and technology, social science, interdisciplinary, liberal arts, and criminal justice
