City life, though it may be rewarding financially, takes a heavy toll on those who live it. The stresses of an office job and having a family are enough to drive some to even take their own lives out of desperation for a relief. Nature provides us humans with a way to forget about the hardships and experience the majesty of the wilderness. It frees us from our anxiety and stress as long as we are immersed in it. If overstressed with homework or life in general, I frequently will go on hikes in order to give myself a break. As soon as I step foot onto a hiking trail, I immediately am at ease. I feel as though I am being welcomed into something that allows me to forget the hassles of school and social media and focus on what really matters in life. This rapidly improves my perspective on my problems, which assists me in finding solutions. Even something as insignificant as a leaf is able to have a positive impact on my mood for a brief period of time. Furthermore, the beauty of nature compels me each time I see a sunset or another awe-inspiring view. It defeats the common classroom and cafeteria that I spend the majority of my average day in. Smartphones and computers allow us a temporary escape from our lives, but never a permanent one. These same devices also become a major problem when misused as seen in schools across the country. With nature, we are given a permanent escape from our daily struggles. Nature invites us to experience a society that is encouraging and beneficial. We are able to find our true selves within nature if we accept our calling. It provides us with a platform to ponder over who we are and what we must rid ourselves of in order to become more complete. Through isolation in nature, we may forgo any chains of modern society and improve our own well-being. Nature allows us to clear our minds of any cloudiness created by society. For example, after a day long hike in the Appalachian Mountains, my mind was clear enough to decide on my college major. I had continuously contemplated over the topic for nearly a year, but after freeing myself from the shackles of society, I came to the conclusion that I desired to be on a pre-medicine track. This was a major decision for me, and without the freeing society of nature, I may have made a detrimental mistake. Moreover, I feel liberated from social media whenever I venture into the woods.
