Calvin Coolidge had once said, “No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been given for what he gave.” I believe that this quote truly defines one point the National Honor Society is trying to get across to young students. That is to serve others before yourself and to give help to others where help is needed. The National Honor Society nominee should show excellent leadership, serve the community and his or her school, and finally display exquisite character at all times. I believe that I am a mere walking image of all the criteria. I feel that leadership these days is hard to come by because people have stayed content with being followers. However, the community needs more followers to step up and become leaders. Our community is going to be relying on …show more content…
If you happen to make a mistake a leader must own up to his or her mistake. A leader should do that because it is only the right thing to do. Thirdly, a leader should never complain. A person that complains is someone that does not want to put in the extra effort to accomplish something, or is someone who may be lazy. Let us just say a leader will not be a lazy individual. Next, a leader should be a hard working and motivating person. I believe I am very motivated and hardworking for many reasons. I learned at a very young age to be a hard worker. My family farm was my starting point of how to work, to get work accomplished. I work to the best of my abilities whether it is farming, school work, community service, weight lifting, or even sports. For example, during the summer I go to plyometrics and lifting every Monday and Wednesday morning at 6 AM. I do this because I want to get better, but to also motivate the underclassman to get in the weightroom. I believe that by doing this I show outstanding leadership. I believe that motivation and hard work go hand in hand, and I must say I have always been motivated. However, it was not until a couple years ago until I witnessed true motivation

I believe I am a good candidate to be selected for the Robert Vela High School National Honor Society because I am a dedicated student. My grades do reflect my abilities as a student, but my work ethic in the co-curricular activities that I participate is what really defines it as I put a lot of time and effort into them. In U.I.L. calculator applications, which is the main activity that I partake in, I sacrifice my time almost everyday after school and sometimes my lunch period throughout the school year, as well as the majority of my Saturdays to compete and practice. Not a lot of students would give up this much time and effort unless they are very dedicated. This also reflects my leadership and character as one has to work and communicate…

NHS looks for people with traits such as leadership, people who are outgoing in their community, and people with a great quality of character. If I am selected to be in this group, I would contribute to the growth of NHS by spreading information about what NHS is to other students and teachers. Before I got this application, I didn’t even know what NHS was and what you do once you are in it. I want other people to know the importance of this group and how it can look good not just for when you apply to colleges, but to yourself as well.…

My followers can expect that I will treat them all as equals. I will take into consideration everyone’s opinions, and my followers can expect that I will always choose the decision that is going to benefit the majority of the group. I would now define a leader as someone who guides a person or group of people to work toward a common goal, or even just a person that positively influences others. If I were to choose one skill that I want to continue growth in my leadership development it would be influencing others effectively and appropriately. This skill can never reach its full potential and thus I want to continue to positively…
