Personal Narrative: Christians Should Be Living Witnesses

Great Essays
“Christians need to be loving… Christians should be living witnesses.” Those were two sentences I heard on the drive to the restaurant with a christian family friend. This family friend seemed to genuinely care about the lost people of this world, and more importantly the condition of their salvation. Or at least I thought so. Upon arriving to the restaurant, just as we were beginning to eat, a “gay looking” man simply minding his own business passed by our table to join his friends. Immediately once he left ear shot, my family friend began ridiculing the man and his lifestyle, saying things such as “Disgusting” and “I can’t even eat my meal any more I lost my appetite”.Now I have known this family friend for 3 years, and he was always trying to teach me and make me feel more comfortable with sharing the gospel, but …show more content…
Ynze Flietstra, a youth pastor from Sudbury Ontario, later begins to explain how to be more Christlike in this area by saying, “Jesus would be there(for them). He would hang out where christians don 't go. He would again meet them where they re at. he wouldn 't expect them to go to him. He would go to them.” and thats what Christians need to do, is first of all, be that friend for them. Be there for them in their time of need, even when you’re at your worst. Anthony Falzarano from “The ex-gay movement” recalls his story saying, “Afterward, he (a man Anthony just slept with) got out of bed and said, Anthony, I have sinned tonight. Not only have I sinned, but I have caused you to sin. He told me he was a struggling homosexual, that he didn’t want to be that way. Then he looked at me and said: and God doesn 't want you to be gay either” No one had ever said that to me before.” Now the man did sin there is no arguing that. But he did more for Anthony than any other Christian up to that point. The man showed he truly did care for

At face value, the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tells of a knight who is challenged by a Green Knight to show the decline in the knighthood, but that is only the literal interpretation. Throughout the story, there are many parallels to the Christian faith seen. The Green Knight places the young knight in a trial just like God might do to Christians. The Green Knight mentions that if Gawain seeks him, then he will be found which is very similar to when Christ says that if we seek, we shall find. The motif of the number three as seen in the Bible for example Peter denying Christ three times and Christ rising after the third day is seen, as well.…

As Christians we must focus on saying on the positive and sincere words to others, and keeping the negative thoughts from coming out, as well as keeping them out of our heads. Saying negative and various insulting comments can damage different types of relationships, from friendships, to marriages, to a relationship with God. Regardless of what we think of others, it is not our job to judge other humans. Romans 2:3 (ASV) says that “And we know that the judgement of God is according to the truth against them that practice such things.”…

Rod Dreher begins his argument opposing the view stating that the Christian solidarity means nothing unless they change their views. He goes on to state that Christians should not condemn violence as it is against the Bible. He also states that an advance of L.G.B.T. rights would be a utter loss of religious expression. He finishes with calling the absurdity of the Orlando attack being pinned on Christians as it was not the intention. Julie Rogers makes the strong claim that Christians must bridge the gap between saying that everyone is welcome, and actually making them welcome.…

The reading for this week consisted of Tanya Erzen’s Straight to Jesus: Sexual and Christian Conversions in the Ex-Gay Movement. Erzen’s work is an ethnography of individuals at “New Hope”, which she states is the oldest ex-gay organization in the United States (Erzen, 2006). Erzen excels at providing historical and social context in her writing along with her ethnographic findings, giving the reader a well-rounded basis to form their opinions from. The “ex-gay” movement is one that is widely known, with ardent supporters as well as extremely influential people opposed to the movement (Erzen, 2006). It is common knowledge that Vice President Mike Pence is known to be a supporter of the ex-gay movement, with people claim he has made statements…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

The sources from which we draw for theological reflection are known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, which uses Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. When we face difficult issues, the quadrilateral provides a framework through which we can approach these issues and reach a Christian understanding. These are the sources we draw upon to further our understanding and application of Christ’s teachings into our lives and our actions in the world. However, not all of these sources are given the same esteem.…

Romans 1-8 sets the foundation for the Christian belief and worldview. Paul focuses on how the wrath of God will be upon those living in the flesh while the love of God will be upon those living in faith. For even though Christians sin, God has forgiven them and continues to love them. “One of the great truths of Scripture is that in spite of our sinfulness and rebellion, we are the objects of God’s divine love.” (Osborne, 34)…

Homosexuality is growing more prevalent and accepted in this day and age, Christians are now facing a tough battle with the controversy of how to handle homosexuality in the Church. Consequently the topic has become something of a “hot-button issue” for Christianity, mostly because of the negativity and repudiation that Christians tend to hold against homosexuals. When Christians hold the lifestyle choices made against homosexuals it in turn gives homosexuals the mentality that Christians are “judgmental, bigoted, sheltered, right wingers, hypocritical, insincere, and uncaring. ”1 The controversy between these two sides (homosexuality vs. Christianity) is exhibiting people the characteristics and substrata of what both sides are predicating their opinions off of, and a plethora of Christian’s are…

Simply stated, a worldview is how you view the world around you. Weider and Gutierrez state that it is a “framework” (79) for our decision making. As humans, we make decisions about the world around us, based on our experiences and our background of our beliefs. When an individual sits down and thinks about is worldview, he may think he does not have one, but in reality, we all have a worldview. Unconsciously, our worldview plays a part in our decision making in all facets of our daily lives.…

Jesus’ identity and purpose has been a great source of discussion and investigation through the years. Although many people do not seem to believe in the importance and legacy of His life, there are many profs and facts that show the meaning of His days physically living in our world. Jesus came to show us the correct way to live and direct our actions towards others. For example, in Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus speaks about loving one’s enemies. He mentions how important it is to love, bless and pray for those who curse, hate, use and persecute us (Matthew 5:44).…
