During the Middle Ages, the lord and lady were one of the most noble people. They were in the highest class and had lots of power. Due to constant threats of war, the lord and lady would live in castles to be protected. They were very important during the Middle Ages. The life of the lord and lady back then is very different than life now. Back in the Middle Ages, the noble class had strong feelings for their clothing. The lord and lady and any other person high in society would be seen wearing bright clothes and better materials to show their place of power. Jewelry was a big part of the outfits. Since owning diamonds seemed like a sign of wealth, the nobility made laws to control who could wear them. Wealthy people did not want to be associated with the peasants, so they would not allow them to wear the same clothes as them. The peasants would be forced to wear cheap clothes or even blankets. The peasants would not be able to break this law, since they could not afford to buy the expensive clothes and jewelry in the first place. This gave the nobility, including the lord and lady, a place of power. Marriage in the Middle Ages would not be considered a marriage today. Back then, the purpose of a marriage was not about love.
