Legacy, by Chittister, is an article explaining the importance of the “Legacy” you leave behind, post mortal. The article begins with a brief description of what was once known as “leaving a legacy” and what most people today believe is leaving a legacy behind. Today, most people believe that leaving behind money, land, or even a business to an heir or love one, is what it means to leave behind a legacy. This can be nothing but further from the truth. In the last decade, there has been a rise in racial and prejudicial issues. The election of President Donald Trump has magnified those issues to an alarming degree. It’s almost impossible to turn on the TV or surf the internet and not see issues surrounding him or his elected cabinet. It has created a great divide in this nation and has in some degree the world. It allows the reader to take a step back and pounder to the question “am I leaving a fulfilled life and how will I be remembered?”. An individual’s legacy is not defined by the type of car their driving or the house their living in. Instead, its defined by the character of the person and the lives they touched. To leave behind a legacy far beyond the years after you pass, you must begin with a truly fulfilled life. A fulfilled life starts with the absence of prejudice or persecution towards any other race, religion, sex, or individual with indifferences. There is so much to learn from everyone and it is impossible to gain enlightenment with a closed off mind. Furthermore, once we can escape from these materialistic and judgmental mindsets, we can than leave behind the memories and experiences to build our everlasting legacy.
