The social aspect of the Late Medieval Times changed quite a bit. For example, in the beginning of Medieval Times women were seen as people who should only cook, clean, and raise the kids. The best known event during that time period is the Hundred Years’ war. The main cause of the war was that the English King declared a claim for himself to the throne of France after his uncle (the French king) died without a male heir. After the 116 year conflict ended, the only gain was for the English for taking over Calais. Similar events such as this one, but on a smaller scale occurred in the Late Medieval Time Period. In fact, it was quite common. As Kagan describes it in The Western Heritage, “Medieval Governments were by no means all powerful and secure. The rivalry of petty lords kept localities in turmoil, and dynastic rivalries could plunge entire lands into war, especially when power was being transferred to a new ruler—and woe to the ruling dynasty that failed to produce a male heir,” (Kagan 298). This implies how small conflicts between lords and/or kings happened quite often. The Hundred Years’ War, however, was the most extreme example of one of those feuds.
Kagan’s The Western Heritage was the best article about the political aspect of this time period. Not much is mentioned about politics or diplomats in the other two articles, while Kagan’s article provided plenty of
