Sheryl Sandberg's Empowerment Of Women

“We must raise both the ceiling and the floor,” states Sheryl Sandberg. Sandberg’s quote highlights that women should receive an education, and improve their knowledge and skills. Sandberg empowers women to keep moving forward and aspiring more than the regular “woman’s obligation” of staying at home and raising children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, females are more likely to attend college immediately after high school graduation than males. Their statistics show that women college enrollment has increased 12 percent between 1990 and 2010 (12). Women can benefit the world with their different perspectives and ideas based on their experiences. The Center for Women in Government and Civil Society illustrates how only “twenty-two percent of all seats in the federal-level courts, and twenty-six percent of all seats in the state-level are filled by women” (1). The unequal representation of gender might be the cause of all the problems our government is facing based on the decisions only performed by men. Women tend to take every detail into consideration before making a decision, such as the effects on the household and benefits of everyday life. On the other hand, men do not pay attention to some aspects before making a “rational” decision. Women usually get more things done due to their ability to multitask in cooking, cleaning, and washing, which would be a great skill to use at work. The Department of Commerce’s Women in STEM: A Gender Gap to Innovation highlights that 24 percent of the STEM workforce are a woman. Women often lack the mentorship and access to resources in STEM professions that often make it difficult for them to continue their goal to get job. Encouraging women to pursue these careers will increase their ability to look after themselves, and be more independent. With the higher wages due to these high paying jobs, women will able to support themselves economically without depending on a man to do so.
