The Importance Of The Hobby In The Classroom

Improved Essays
If we all could remember what we did in the classroom, it might not be the best for many of us. Many of us have the best way of learning experience just outside of the classroom.
We all have a hobby that many can’t just learn in the classroom, but we can learn so much even with just a hobby of their own. Take Brandon Coriz as an example, he moved to Bali, Indonesia for a short while during the time he lived he was able to learn so much things while there. Coriz was able to learn the language, see and learn the culture, and the entertainment of music and dance. We learn a lot from the outside and whatnot far beyond our own home, but sometimes we stay inside and the great part about that, we can still learn something there as well either at home

In some ways you can we’re self-taught. You can learn how to change your whole attitude by being self-taught, Juan Pacheco got a job at the age of 18. During that time working, he noticed he really didn’t socialize with his colleagues at work. He realized to work in a better environment, he had to communicate, so he slowly taught himself to be more open, to start a conversation learn, to work with communication and succeed in the job force. Pacheco’s 8th year at his job is approaching and he couldn’t be more proud of those he has met, soon to meet and he’ll continuing working on to teaching himself more communication skills. You can even learn life skills outside of the classroom like, Shea Trauba on his own learned how apply for loans, calculate college cost, pay college costs, buy a house, and buy a car. Trauba on his own learned to take steps in to the right directions of living on his own and taking care of all matter needs to live. Trauba continues on to this day working while still managing himself. But we learn all this stuff one day in our lives, especially with technology and whatnot, but some stuff it’s absolutely hard to learn on your own. Learning purely on self-teaching is a big responsibly, a responsibility that many parents learn just like, Heather Alvarado what she learned on her own was, how to be a mother. Alvarado had a different life to take care, she had to manage expenses for herself and her child. She learned so much things that some people couldn’t tell her about raising a child on her own, she managed to live in reality by becoming a mother and taking the job to her heart. We all live in reality, something some of us can’t learn in the classroom. But we can continue even with all the hard exceptions of what reality gives to

Nowadays, nearly every student smears a highlighter all around their notes, and calls it "studying," but in reality these kind of methods do not work well; this phenomenon is explained the book Make it Stick. The cognitive scientists, Peter C. Brown, Henry L. Roediger III, and Mark A. McDaniel, explain why people are attracted to ineffective strategies for learning and teaching and how the concept of learning is misunderstood by most students and teachers as well, which creates difficulties in the process of learning. The book analyzes the science behind lifelong learning, self-improvement, and different strategies to use while learning, whether it is a course, a sport or even usual day to day skills, such as tying a knot. In Make It Stick the authors use numerous examples with the aim of proving several learning strategies which are helpful in driving the reader's attention(okay?). (THESIS) The authors argue how easy learning methods are not necessarily the best methods because they can be unproductive and might result in short-term memory learning.…

The quote "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" by Benjamin Franklin tells me that by just telling me without showing me will not let me learn anything. I agree with this quote because when a teacher or someone tells me something about an assignment or homework I will eventually forget about it but if some one teach it to me step by step and I write it down will let me remember. By writing down the notes that the teachers wrote down step by step and write it my own understanding will make me understand more about the lesson because who understands my writing more than myself.…

Also, individuals can be helped to learn more effectively by the identification of their lesser preferred learning styles and the strengthening of these through the application of the experiential learning cycle (McLeod, S. When working with developmental education students, I plan to use this method to possibly bring out my students abilities from each stage of Kolb’s experiential learning cycle because almost everyone needs some kind of push to ignite learning, In conclusion, as we all know learning is based on various circumstances from life’s experiences to heredity. As I engaged in each model, I was able to relate personally in some way rather it was in my own life experiences or through my students. Like so many, I felt an undeniable call to action after watching Davis Guggenheim’s film Waiting for Superman. The film poignantly illustrates the imperative need for a long overdue paradigm shift in American education. In the film, activist, educator and founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone, Geoffrey Canada, shares the disillusionment he felt as a child upon realizing that Superman was not coming to save him from the perils of his impoverished South Bronx neighborhood. His message in the film is that we must become our own superheroes.…

By going abroad and having absorbed different landscapes, cultures, and values, I am able to analyze more complex problems and find new ways to solve them. I moved to Guatemala, where I first had a notion of life preservation through the Mayans, the Native Indian tribes. Being in this country, I learn how to appreciate other cultures and by being surrounded by beautiful landscapes I learned more about being aware of the world around me.…

During the first few weeks of class I was unsure of what to do for my behavior change, there are so many things in my life that I could do without and that would help me live a happier healthier life such as eating fast food, drinking soda, Facebook and social media usage, as well as the habit of judgment. At first I thought the easiest thing that I could change would be to stop eating fast food. While fast food is a horrible habit that I have enquired due to my busy schedule, after the first week I really wanted to focus on something that would help me become a better person from the inside. A huge problem in my life as well as the lives of many others is the way that we judge people. Through recent experiences I have come to the conclusion…

My first day of 5th grade I was taught by a intimidatingly large bellowing man that I should “always reach for the highest rung of the ladder” without exception. I heard these words through my fifth and sixth grade years at my unconventional environmental school where I was handed an axe within my first week. I left this school with a repertoire that no other fifth graders could say they had. I built and etched a traditional birch bark canoe, constructed a log barn without power tools, repaired a wampanoag, threaded snowshoes, ran the sales department of a chicken business, painted murals, wadded through a cold pond for a night of frogging, and ended up in more ponds than I really would have liked. With this experience as my motivation and guide, I learned to incorporate a successful education with this learning as an enhancement.…
