Introduction: The amount of money the United States spends on health care is increasing, and the quality of health care provided to patients is not improving (Kumar, Ghildayal & Shah, 2011). In order for our society to have an effective health care system, groups of people work together to write policies to define, plan, and determine an action to provide adequate and proper care for citizens. The process is also known as the health care policy process. This process requires careful considerations of multiple variables as well as effective communication between the stakeholders and policy makers (Vogel, Oxman, Glenton, Rosenbaum, Lewin, Gülmezoglu & Souza, 2013). However, unlike physicians, pharmaceutical manufacturers provide medication for patients, not diagnoses and treatment. To be specific a pharmaceutical manufacturers key role and responsibility is to provide patients with medications prescribed by their physicians, be aware of the different combination of medications and warn physicians of the alarming combinations. According to the article written by Prados-Torres, Calderón-Larrañaga, Sicras-Mainar, March-Llull and Oliván-Blázquez, they stated that drug cost control is a part of the responsibility of the pharmaceutical manufacturers. (Pardos-Torres, Calderón-Larrañaga, Sicras-Mainar, March-Llull & Oliván-Blázquez, 2009) It’s important for pharmaceutical manufacturers to suggest to physicians the other brands that cost less, therefore making the cost of medication less and more affordable for patients.
