Even now in 2016, a man is more likely to be considered more likely to be qualified for a job position than a woman, even if they have the same experience and level of education. Through the presentation of studies and statistics, there have been many efforts by more and more companies and places of employment in order to hire more women into positions that would predominantly be held by men. There has been more and more advocacy in recent years in order to have women in positions of authority within companies. A theory that I have learned about through my internship is the Glass Cliff Theory, which explains that a common issue within companies is that they are more likely to put a woman in a position of authority such as a CEO position, when the company is going south in profits, as a means to turn the company’s current downhill fall profitable again.
