The Foster Care System and Why it needs to Change In today 's society the foster care system is viewed as one of the most useful systems in the united states. Yet they never mention what the foster care system even does to children as they are going in to when they are dismissed from the system. The foster care system is no longer a passionate system for children, so many children in the system are treated like slaves and do not receive hardly any tender, love and care thus leading to children coming out of the system with serious mental health problems. Most of the time the child is treated like an outcast. This is what most people do not know. This is why I believe that the foster care system needs to be changed! The foster care system has long time been on a down hill slope and I feel now is the time to fix it! There are so many different ways to better the foster care system for the children. It says that at least 15% of children coming out of foster care end up with this disorder which causes them to have to be put on medicine and even sometimes the child will need to go to counseling just to help with the all of a sudden fear. Schizophenia if it does not get treated the disorder could stay with the child for the rest of his or her life. This would cause very many different forms of problems in this childs life, from getting a job or starting a family. This is something that must be treated before leaving the foster home systems care. The second disorder depression is very sad for a young child to have. A child is suppose to be happy and full of life and when you see one acting so depressed it just breaks your heart. Children are meant to be joyful not sad. This kind of disorder can also lead to suicide so if the child is depressed they are normally watched 24 hours a day.
If this disorder goes untreated then a child could end up commiting suicide in the host familys house. This could be a real situation especially if the host family of the foster system is mistreating the child in any way. These ways could include
