It allows to live our lives with security. It allows us the freedom to believe what we believe and speak freely about it. Without it, African-Americans would still be second class citizens, women would still be considered property and lesser than men, and minorities would face discrimination with no protection from the government. The first amendment is what allowed the US to become a more equal country than the one it used to be. Despite the fact that the first amendment can allow people to spread misinformation and hate, it’s pros far outweigh its cons. The first amendment is one of the most important amendments present in the bill of rights as it gives us the ability to fight for equality and the protection of our freedoms.. Without the first amendment people couldn 't practice what they believe in. No one could have open discussions on the morality of abortion, or the strictness of gun laws. It has allowed persecuted groups to fight and gain the equality they rightly deserve. If America ever truly lives up to the term “land of the free” it will be because the first amendment allowed the people in it to fight for equality and fight for what they believe to be
