War In Iraq Article Analysis

The War in Iraq is probably the most impactful war for my generation. This is the only war that people around my age can remember because it’s the only major one that has happened. So for someone around my age this is one of the most important subjects of my lifetime. The First Article that I chose takes place in October 26, 2005 and it’s by James Dao is titled “2,000 Dead: As Iraq Tours Stretch On, a Grim Mark”. This article was very impactful is expressing how cruel the war was. I liked that the writer did not sugarcoat anything in this article; He wanted people to know the risks that our troops had to go through. One of the Major Similarities is how the authors addressed the mental state of the people that was affected by the death of someone. For Example, In Yellow Birds, the Author showed how much the death of Murph impacted Bartle greatly. That was also the case in the first article because it showed plenty examples of how their families were example. Example of that would be and I quote “Patricia Roberts 's son, Specialist Jamaal R. Addison, was part of the invasion of 2003 when his convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces near Nasiriya. The attack became famous because six soldiers, including Pfc. Jessica D. Lynch, were captured. But nine others from the unit died during and after the ambush, including Specialist Addison, who was 22. After his death, Ms. Roberts, 45, said she lost her job as a customer service representative because she frequently broke down in tears. “As you can see, the death of her son impacted her life so much to point that she lost her job because she couldn’t keep her composure. This just shows that war can heavily affect the people who aren’t even in the war. The major difference between the two articles that I chose and the book is that these articles also address the damage that was done to the people in Iraq. The book more so focuses on the war from the point of view from the side of our main characters and the united states, but the articles go the extra mile in order to show that not only the U.S was affected. I believe that the approach of the articles took were more impactful and better than the Yellow Birds because it shows that not only one side is affected by a war. People tend to forget that the other side is also suffering. When people start to realize that both sides are losing more than they gain because both sides are losing people, we will get closer to achieving true
