The Importance Of The Doctrine And Covenants

Great Essays
The Doctrine and Covenants is a book of divine revelations, given to members of the

Church of Jesus Christ, to help further the establishment of Christ’s Kingdom and contains an

invitation to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. As one engulfs oneself into the Doctrine and

Covenants, one will find out that, just as the Book of Mormon is the keystone of The Church of

Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Doctrine and Covenants is a companion to the Book of

Mormon and is the capstone of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Doctrine

and Covenants gives new insight to gospel topics and one can further partake of the bread of life

as one drinketh from the pages of the Doctrine and Covenants to come closer to Christ.

The Doctrine and Covenants enables

us to improve our knowledge of the Holy Ghost by teaching us of the Spirit’s true nature, to

learn more about the gifts the Spirit gives and to more fully comprehend how we can receive

revelation through the Spirit.

The Doctrine and Covenants enables us to improve our knowledge of the Holy Ghost by

teaching us of the Spirit’s true nature. So often scriptures describe the role of the Spirit, but

often times there is no explanation of what the Spirit is. The Doctrine and Covenants teaches of

what is the Holy Ghost. The following will be explained: The light of Christ, The Power of the

Holy Ghost, The Gift of the Holy Ghost, and the Holy Spirit of Promise.

The Light of Christ- In Doctrine and Covenants 84:46 it reads, “And the Spirit giveth

light to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the

world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit.” A person has the capability of receiving

guidance from the Holy Ghost, even when one does not have the gift of the Holy Ghost, because

the Spirit “giveth Light” to everyone who is in the world. Some have called this their

The Book of Mormon tells us that “By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know

the truth of all things.” (Moroni 10:5) Although this witness is more powerful than the Light of

Christ, it is still temporary and is only there to help one gain a testimony of the truth.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost- Yes, there is a difference between the Holy Ghost and the

Gift of the Holy Ghost. Those who have felt the power of the Holy Ghost do not yet have the

constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost is the right to have,

whenever one is worthy, the companionship of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost is

given after proper and authorized baptism has taken place. This is done through an ordinance in

which worthy priesthood brethren confer the Spirit onto you by the laying on of hands. This gift

entitles one, who is worthy, to the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the

Holy Ghost will be a comforter to all those who have it. It also brings peace and guides those in

life who have this precious gift.

The Holy Spirit of Promise- Doctrine and Covenants also refers the Holy Ghost as

These verses talk about how Christ is the Light and through a glass (the Spirit) we are able to see the Light that is conveyed to the spiritual man. Edwards goes on to show more biblical proof. He starts by stating that the spiritual man and natural man differ in the ability to see the light that is conveyed. They are different in that the spiritual man has the knowledge of God and the sight of God. Edwards backs this point up with 1 John 3:6, 3 John 11, John 14:19, John 17:3.…

The read of the article “A Pentecostal Way of Doing Theology: Method and Manner”, by Archer was a lot to digest. The dilemma is to be able to resurrect and define Pentecostalism Pentecostal. I haven’t given this concept much thought recently, but I’ve known this for a while. I was brought into the Pentecostal “mode” in 1975 to a church that was practicing the true traditional Pentecostal theological ways. Since then, I haven’t been able to find a comparable church proclaiming or practicing these beliefs.…

Another important argument, presented is that the new Christian counselor should see Christian counseling as a pact between the counselor and the client to work in partnership for the ownership of the soul. The textbook discusses several unique resources such as the power of the Holy Spirit, and the authority of God that derives from being a Christian counselor working in collaboration with God’s presence. In other words, the Christian counselor is a partnership between God, the client, and the counselor. Christology, which is the study of Christ, helps one to learn more about Jesus and his identity and how to live a good Christian life by forming a relationship with the Lord. In order for Christology to work, the person of Jesus must be known and a major idea discussed in this novel is homoousios, Jesus is full and truly God. Two other important characteristics of God found in this chapter are immutability¬¬ and impassibility. Tongan’s everyday life is overpoweringly motivated by traditions and especially by their Christians’ faith. For example, all exchanges, commerce and performing activities cease on Sunday from the beginning of the day at midnight up to the end of the day at midnight. The constitution affirms the Sabbath sacrosanct open-endedly and there seems to be no sooner change in that pronouncement. Well here in Tonga the Sunday is celebrated as a strict Sabbath, preserved so in the constitution, and regardless of some voices to the contradictory, the Sunday ban is not likely to be obliterated soon. No trade is allowed on Sunday, except essential services, after special approval by the minister of police.…

Introduction into this book and videos covers how we need to set long term goals, but before doing so we need to ask ourselves some questions. Before we can set those goals we should seek to know Christ. This can be done by reading the four gospels and seeing what Jesus did, what we can learn from him, and how does it relate to us? Jesus’ last commandment was to go and make disciples, and while principles never change, our methods have to change in order to reach the current generation, and each beyond. As we get into the chapters we learn that men are God’s method and while they may seem unlearned or ignorant by man’s standards, God uses those willing to learn and raises them into leadership.…
