Throughout this movie, I had to pay astute attention to be able to follow the sequence of events, which is not something I am accustomed to. In the end, though I thought I knew what had happened, until I read the English description on the back of the DVD case, and realized I was completely lost. I tried to not to read the subtitles word for word, and it proved a challenge Going into this, I assumed that it would not be too difficult to follow, if I observed the scenery and people’s expressions. Making these observations did help, however, everything had much less significance to me, as I only had a guess about the story’s meaning. Never before did I understand the importance of the differences between language, speech, talking, and communication, …show more content…
Watching Por Si No te Vuelvo a Ver, demonstrated to me that this is completely untrue. When characters yelled I was only more confused, as it often seemed to come out of nowhere. Also, their yelling seemed out of place. For instance, the characters scream about a spilled drink, yet no one cried out when a lot of musical instruments were purposely smashed by a couple of men. This showed to me that for some one to fully discern a situation, it is better to have a combination of speech, language, talking, and …show more content…
At the end, I had started to lose focus, when a character began to practice English, Suddenly, I was drawn in again and excited that I actually knew something. Words have so much power, especially when people know what you are saying. It makes me curious how schools devise English as a Second Language programs, and if language is truly taught in a productive manner.
Watching a movie in a foreign language was a very eye opening experience. It was something I had never done before, and I am glad that I took the time to do so, and not only because it was for a grade. Such a simple task has allowed me to be more understanding and will hopefully allow me to be an even better speech

The historical ballad “Los vientos eran contrarios” was written anonymously, as were most Spanish ballads. According to Colin Smith, it “is probably the oldest of the King Roderick ballads, composed in the second half of the 15th century”. It details the conquering of Spain as a result of King Roderigo sleeping with the virgin daughter- la Cava- of Count Julían. A maid, Fortuna, predicts the King’s future as well as the subjugation of Spain.…

This movie does not portray characters as deeply as it should. The town of Milagro is already a mystery to me, and many others: I have never seen a group of people like this. If I had been given a bit more information about them and their culture, I would have been more invested in this movie. For instance, we were given no information about the woman that threw rocks. Did she not like people?…

¿Hablas Espanol? "Mom where do babies come from?", I remember asking one day after preschool. She looked down at my innocent, four-year-old face that had dried snot and remnants of what looked like some sort of red candy from lunch still on it, and she quickly realized where the conversation was about to go. Every kid has those phases where they beg and beg for the newest Barbie or Hot Wheels car that all their friends have, but their parents know that if they wait it out, sooner or later the begging will stop and their kids won't even remember why they wanted the toy in the first place, but this was not a phase.…

The most obvious theme I could seek out in the novel "... Y No Se Lo Trago La Tierra" by Thomas Rivera, was fear. The theme of fear is explored through the different point of views, as every person seems to be in a different difficult situation trying to deal with life. It is apparent the books revolves around immigrants and the struggles faced of having to deal with harshness of coming into this country with nothing other than their families. The people in the short stories seem to have fear push them to their limits by wanting to put it all on the line in order to have a good outcome.…

In this paper I will examine the two short stories ‘A Diary Of a Madman’ by Nikolai Gogol and ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ tells the story of an unnamed married woman who--according to the narration-- suffers from a ‘temporary nervous depression’ and as the story progresses she gradually loses her sense of self and reality. The story of Ivanovich Poprishchin in ‘A Diary of a Madman’ progresses in a similar manner, as the anxious and socially withdrawn Russian titular councilor experiences the fast downfall of his sanity. I will focus on analyzing the characterization of the protagonists and how their development affects the narration.…

The piece I've chosen to speak about is the movie ‘Se7en’. It was produced in 1995 , it is filmed in an unnamed american city and director of the movie is David Fincher. I have chosen to focus on the final scene and the sequence in which the narrative is told. Bal’s theory helps to decipher, understand and evaluate narratives.…
