Women must be religious and not worry about any other form of learning because the creator and their husband is more important (Bonventre, 2005, pg. 20). Therefore, women must put god and their husband over themselves and other things first. This is important because women are seen as lesser than men. In addition, a good religious woman would have to be pure of mind and body. If not they would be considered a fallen woman like a fallen angel that has sins (Bonventre, 2005, pg. 21). The importance of women being religious will give them the opportunity to have a relationship with a man and get married one day. Women were seen to behave a certain way for them to be good role models for their families. The four virtues of principles were a limitation of what women should behave like. As a result, women were kept at home and sometimes had fallen into psychological illness. For example, some women started having paralysis or even insomnia because of staying indoors majority of the time. Overall, the cult of domesticity limited women’s roles inside the private spheres without giving them any power. There were no protections towards women nor give them freedom to explore the outside
