Services/Programs Offered
The Rosa Valdez Early Childhood Learning Center is open Monday through Friday. The center provides child care, school readiness programs, and family support services to children, birth to five years of age. The center emphasizes strong Christian values and preparing students socially, emotionally, and academically for kindergarten. The center was created to help immigrant families, who worked in the Tampa cigar factories, with their child care needs. The mission continues to serve children and their families by offering quality child care and instilling hope through their Christian faith. (Brown, C., personal communication, October 5, 2016).
Gaps in Services The needs that are not being met by Cornerstone Family Ministries in serving the target population is early childhood education and care, early childhood hunger, and faith connection for children and their families (Brown, C., personal communication, October 5, 2016).
Potentials Solution
A potential solution to these problems would be to first incorporate family support/social work type services on site to help facilitate a pathway out of poverty for families (partner with local agencies). Second, to grow the Children’s nutrition connection program to provide sustainable options for food components (i.e. community garden, grow boxes, etc).
