Community Assessment Assignment

After growing up here in the Fresno/Clovis area for about ten years already, I have come to realize and that this city is not for me. My family moved to this part of California for ministry purposes. Therefore, as a young ten year old girl, I did not have a choice on whether or not I could have stayed where we were from which was in Southern California. Recently, I have had a stronger love for my hometown, Long Beach California. I have many family members all over Southern California, however, my maternal side of my family mostly reside in Long Beach. My hope now is that after I graduate from Fresno Pacific University (FPU), I can then move and relocate myself back to Long Beach where I may begin to work and potentially start my graduate work there. With wanting to move back to Long Beach, I have decided to do further research in this city for this community assessment assignment. This assignment will look …show more content…
During the years that I have lived in Long Beach, the area was not the best area to live in. With that, as the years progressed one would be able to notice that in West Long Beach, the poverty and crime rate has increased. This is a problem for those students who attend the schools in the area. Being a person that calls the westside of Long Beach my hometown, I still have a soft spot for my city and for the people who currently live there, especially for those in school. Education for me is very important and I have had the privilege to be able to attend a great high school and an even better university to pursue my higher education and receeive a degree in social work. However, just because I had that privelege, there any many people who are from Long Beach do not due to various circumstances. Knowing this concerns me and gives me a passion to try to help and make a difference in these rural communities in Long
