Magic was a real and potent force used by the Egyptians to communicate with the gods and seek their favour ( El Mahdy, 1991). Magic was also used by the Christians but it can be argued that it is not magic but a miracle brought forth by God. In Exodus during the period of the liberation of the Israelites, Moses went to the pharaoh and God spoke to him through Aaron and said “take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent and this rod became a serpent’’. The pharaoh called his own wise men and sorcerers and they cast down their own rods which became serpents. Both used magic to outcompete the other in the same context, but they are treated differently and possess different views on the supremacy of a god over another. The two religions have a different concept to the use magic and source, where the Egyptians believed the creator god made it for their own benefit to use on a daily basis as it was seen as a way for people to overcome negative events in their life. As a result they used magic for their health, protection, marriage, children and evil spirits.
