English colonists gathered Thursday at Plymouth to celebrate a new holiday they are calling Thanksgiving. Colonists and natives feasted together to give thanks for their blessings and share in their gratefulness.
Much of the feast was supplied by a successful harvest this year.
“Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables,” wrote Governor William Bradford in Of Plymouth Plantation.
