Throughout time, humans have grown from their basic dietary needs of just substantial food to feed themselves in the paleolithic era to the now, modern era of a balanced and nutritious meal with grains, fruits, vegetables, proteins, and dairy. In today’s society we are still growing with new ways to scientifically prove how to eat healthier and stay fit to social standards. To this day, scientists are proving what we originally thought to be healthy could in reality, be unhealthy. Just a few years ago, the United States’ standard health meal plan was a food pyramid but now, we have ChooseMyPlate which is a new modified version of the pyramid that allows for people to stay even healthier. The diet-induced inflammation is a major reason why people gain pounds, become ill and age faster. The natural aging process happens because when cells replicate in your body, they lose a little bit of DNA from the end of each chromosome. Thus resulting in cells being different from their original cell. Many cells have a natural defense in this called Telomeres, which is unneeded DNA at the end of each chromosome, we can control how much Telomeres we have by controlling our diet and following the zone diet, making us age slower than others. Scientifically, the zone diet can help improve the body’s physical state because too much protein and carbs can result in the body getting overweight. Many nutritionists have promoted the zone diet because of this very reason. At Harvard Medical school, many individuals are researching the positive and negative effects of the zone diet and so far they have come up with no cons on the meal plan and found proof that as your enter the “zone,” a state where your can better maintain your immune system, natural aging process and your body’s ability to gain weight, your become a healthier individual because your brain becomes more active and your body can work better.
