Suicide is no longer an unfamiliar event among teenagers in this modern world. Suicide means ending someone’s own lives to escape pain and suffering. Nowadays, we hear of teens’ suicides so often from the news, reflecting that the rate of teens’ suicides is growing tremendously. According to World Health Organization’s report (WHO), more than 800,000 people die by suicide every year. The Health Ministry has identified that those who aged between 16 and 25 are at a higher risk commit suicides. It is important to recognize the possible reasons behind the escalating rate of teens’ suicides in order to help them. The scope for the reasons is wide. Parents should play a major role in suicides prevention. Parents should communicate clearly and frequently with their children to recognize the teens’ interest, while showing loves and concerns. Parents should discuss and make shared decisions with their children before enrolling them into courses that they have no interests in. By allowing the teens to express their own feelings and opinions, parents become ones whom they trust the most. They are more willing to share their difficulties in studies with their parents and seek advice from them. Besides being a good listener, parents can detect warnings signs of suicides in their children which include loss of interests in previously pleasurable activities, withdrawal from family and peers and obvious changes in personality. Parents should send their children for assessment of mental illnesses if they feel the need to. If they do not know how to help a suicide child, they should seek advice from counselors or educators. Students should try their best to help their friends those who have suicidal thoughts, be friends with them, let them express their feelings such as stresses and worries because the war against suicides never end. Besides that, one should not forget to remind these people that suicide is never the answer. Suicide is not the way to get rid of obstacles. Committing suicide is the most selfish act. By successfully committing suicide, it hurts not only the victims but others that care about them and the sadness will last forever.
