How Technology Has Affected Humanity

From the first landlines in the 1920’s to the advanced robotics of today, technology has been making everyday life easier for generations. However, there may be a price we are paying for this modern day convenience. Many aspects of our daily life are affected by mechanics. It would be extremely difficult to count how many times we use technology in a day. Turning off the alarm clock, taking a shower, and scrambling eggs are a few ways I use technology, and that’s before 8 am. The simple way we live our lives today reflects the workings of applied sciences, mechanics, robotics, and more. The question remains, have the advances in technology helped humanity or hurt it? In 2015 we have an infinite number of social outlets. I enjoy going to concerts. In August, I attended a One Direction concert where I met some amazing people, who from texting and Instagram, I can still talk to. I can stay connected to people who live miles away from me instantly. However, you can also meet people on the internet that you do not know. This year a girl, named Aysia, went missing from Christiansburg after agreeing to meet a stranger whom she talked to online. Technology introduces us to a vast array of social media, but it is up to each individual to practice safe cyber discretion. Our communication has improved greatly over the past century, from writing letters, to talking on landlines, to cell phones, and lastly texting. Texting is useful because you do not have to wait for a letter to arrive or stop what you are doing to talk on the phone. You can do many things while texting. The popular TV show Once Upon a Time splits between Medieval fairytale times and their modern day counterparts. Each character exists in both worlds. The fairytale characters rely on letters and pigeons to communicate, while their modern day selves use cell phones and computers. While modern day communication is great, meanings can get lost due to the lack of facial expression, tone, pitch, and many other factors we have with face to face communication. Auto correction can be wonderful, or the destruction of a poor individual. I was once texting my friend Bethany, and I was telling her a story about my parents and some wasps. My text instead read “How to tell your pants about the wops.” Not my finest moment. When
