Danger Of Technology Essay

There have always been fears of the unknown and things we cannot control, with the ever expanding technology we have in the world today it is no wonder that movies and television with humans being destroyed by technology is a common theme. As it is this idea in essence is the view that, ‘Technology - with all its promise and potential - has gotten so far beyond human control that it is threatening the future of humankind.’ Personally I view technology as a danger to people as it; is changing the shape and size of our brains and causing various health problems, changes our perception of things values and ethics in real life, and changes our ideals and what we think of as natural. One of the major concerns with technology is how it warps our perception of things, and how it leaves us with distasteful values and little in means of ethics. The documentary Virtual Revolution episode 1 highlights the points that the internet has certainly changed things for us by changing our perception of things of real life. For example people who want information in the twenty first century reject the effort of going to a library checking through books for knowledge, instead turning to sites like Wikipedia a site which is not known for facts but being written by anyone about anything. Episode 2 of Virtual Revolution explains that due to the nature of the internet and how many people regularly use it we are now exposed to first and second hand view of world problems, terrorists promote their regimes posting videos of prisoner executions on YouTube. Through the method of Cyberbalkinization people filter their own ideals and view upon people though the mass information base that is the internet, thus persuading people to extremist views and altering their ideals and views. The ever expanding internet has gotten far out of the control of people and is changing our ethics and values with its largely unfiltered
