Our Savior or Our Demise?

Technology, is it killing us or saving us? An extremely debatable topic in the world today. Should it be as debatable as it 's made out to be though? What good it does do, seems as if what good it does do has deadly consequences. For example, electronic cigarettes are supposed to be out to help people quit smoking and decrease the chances of getting cancer and heart disease, but now it is coming out that this new electronic cigarettes are just as bad as a normal cigarette. Are our children really learning anything? Schools have taken to using computers for everything. They use them for tests, essays, surveys, and so much more. This technology is not reliable, there is always outages, internet going in and out. What if when a student is taking a test online and the internet goes out, what do we do then? It is not a reliable way of doing things in the learning environment. Introducing machines into our workplace is a benefit, but only if we own that business. If someone is an employee at the business, their job is going to be replaced by that machine. What does that do for you? All it does is cost a job and cost them money. If more and more automated machines are being introduced into the workplace then how many people will have jobs ten years from now? Will this technology just take over everyone’s jobs and make everyone unemployed? What kind of world will we live in the day that happens to us. We all need to face the truth that technology is taking over the work place. Computers are being used to teach children in school now, robots are building cars and all kind of other things, and soon it will not even be required to have some to run these machines with the way that technology is advancing in today’s life. If that happens that means a loss of jobs and a loss of money. If people don 't have jobs that means they can’t provide for themselves or their families, with no money to spend that means no money is going into the economy which will then lead to the one of the biggest stock market crashes in world history. So the real question being is this technology in the workforce really helping us, or is it going to ultimately destroy us all in the long run? The wealthy

A manufacturing company that uses machines instead of people for production can potentially increase the company’s profits. Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life.
