Technology is a powerful tool in today’s society. Most people own some sort of technology and use it on a daily basis whether it be a cell phone, computer, GPS, or a television. Technology helps us in many different ways by being able to complete tasks easier, and be connected to people we cannot see daily. Text messages, emails, apps like Snapchat, Skype, or FaceTime help us stay connected to people. There is an app for almost anything you need on most smartphones today. Wireless internet has allowed internet access to any phone, or computer in reach. Technology has helped us complete necessary online applications like college, scholarship, and job applications that are hard to complete without a computer. Most teens own a phone by the time they are in middle school, and a laptop by the time they are in high school. “78% of teens now have a cell phone, and almost half (47%) of those own smartphones. That translates into 37% of all teens who have smartphones.” (Madden, et al) “Nine in ten (93%) teens have a computer or have access to one at home. This habit has killed many, and injured many others. It is getting to the point of passing laws to have texting behind in the wheel, and even talking on the phone illegal. Some states, like New Jersey, have already passed this law and their residents can be fined, or their licenses pulled if caught on their cell phones. This will help with the number of accidents related to texting. A good way to prevent this in states that have not passed this law is to encourage people to get a Bluetooth. Many car companies today are putting them inside their cars, and people can buy an earpiece fairly cheap to be able to talk on the phone hands free to
