How Technology Changed My Life

Growing up in a small diverse city of Central Ohio I was only opened up to so many experiences and opportunities. Though as a little African American girl born into a city that seemed so large and full of possibilities at the time, I quickly discovered otherwise. As I grew up I realized I wanted much more than what this city had to offer me. I wanted to travel, experience new things, meet new people, and see everything I feel I have been deprived of. The construction of my family and the technology they opened up to me created the person I am today. As previously mentioned, my childhood seemed complete at the time since I had little comprehension of my reality. I grew up in a broken family that seemed complete to me; however, I was unaware it was broken until society labeled it so. Technology was not always harmful, it often gave me the availability to see places I could only dream of going. It gave pictures and stories of others experiences in these beautiful areas of the world, some of which I had never heard of before. Thus, my use of technology could have contributed to my lack of imagination. I often found myself indoors most my childhood watching television and lacking outdoor adventuring. This might contribute to my current state of wanting to escape the state and see new places. These dreams began to turn into reality when I became able to drive; my experiences became easier and more realistic. My ability to make my own money and drive on my own will open up new horizons for my future, which was very exciting. My best friend, Alex, moved to Florida a few years ago which made it possible for me to travel even further than I ever have
