Technological advancements have transformed existing businesses by developing competitive advantages in the economic marketplace for people. Technology has affected the economic and social lives of humans and has provided more opportunities to prosper in society. Computer scientists have contributed to the expansion of technology by programming machines known as artificial intelligence to solve problems and perform ordinary tasks conducted by humans. However, people speculate that artificial intelligence can replace their jobs completely once “artificial superintelligence” is achieved. Therefore, AI will have more advanced cognitive abilities than humans and draw insights to mimic human thought. The possibility of achieving “artificial superintelligence,” …show more content…
Overall, what happens when computers become smarter than humans? What will it mean to be human in the age of artificial intelligence? The movie, “I, Robot” addresses the classic fear toyed within “artificial superintelligence” and its possibility to overcome the human population. “I, Robot,” is a collection of science fiction stories by the scholar Isaac Asimov who mentions that programmers are responsible in including his “Three Laws of Robotics” to ensure appropriate robotic behavior. Once the “Three Laws of Robotics” are adopted in the movie, robots are programmed to perform human tasks effectively and follow the orders granted by their innovators. However, “I, Robot” includes an unexpected twist in which robots initiate a plan to dominate the human population. Once the robots develop a more advanced cognitive capacity than humans, robots turn against their programmers and the “Three Laws of Robotics,” which keep AI confined to the …show more content…
Kai-Fu Lee, the founder of Sinovation Ventures, describes artificial intelligence as a “decision engine that will replace people and exceed those of humanity.” Artificial intelligence is a machine that retrieves data, which is a technical skill applied in traditional companies including banks and insurance firms. Therefore, artificial intelligence can replace certain jobs which focuses on updating data into a computer system database. In response to the deceleration of job opportunities, the Indiana Daily student newspaper published an article, “Artificial intelligence will hurt many people,” which mentions that artificial intelligence is progressively improving and is geared to replace human workers. The Indiana University students believe that machines perform certain tasks to allocate time for humans which satisfies a utopian lifestyle, but the lack of jobs caused by AI changes the ideal vision to a worried reality. According to Michael Hobbes, the author of “Generation Screwed,” he mentions that millennials are uncertain about their future prospects, since there is a disproportional relationship between low salaries and high cost of living. Hobbes mentions that a university diploma is a prerequisite for a low-paying job or internship, which each student is competing for
