Technology Everywhere Over the years, technology has advanced exponentially. Evidence of technology use is everywhere; whether you are eating at a restaurant or shopping at your local store it is common to see someone with a cell phone, an IPod, or maybe a mini IPad or tablet. Students today rely on the Internet for homework information, whereas in the past students relied on dictionaries, the library, and atlases. If a person is going on a road trip, instead of a map they refer to a GPS for directions. There are several reasons for technologies’ rise in popularity: it has become affordable, user friendly, and portable. The first mobile phone was the Motorola DynaTAC x8000 weighing just under two pounds and did not contain a screen. (Meyers, 2011). Before the first mobile phones, phones were connected to one spot in a living area restraining the user to stay in one room or spot. There were also things called bag phones and car phones, usually weighing around twenty-two pounds and were bulky in size making it awkward to carry around and use. Today’s mobile devices usually weight around four ounces, are typically a third of an inch thick, and about four inches tall (Meyers, 2011). They are usually small enough to keep in a person’s pocket or purse so that they can always have it with them. In fact, Bluetooth devices were created so that a person could talk to someone through a small hands-free earpiece that hooks on your ear. Many people are trading in home phones altogether for just a mobile device for the convenience. Since you can access the internet and download applications, many people use these as computers when they do not have access to one. Technology advancements have changed the way people live. Advancements have allowed technology to be a part of everyday life for some people. In fact, some people’s everyday lives rely on technology from a cell phone alarm clock in the morning, a college student’s homework database, a truck driver’s source of directions, a professional’s work compiled and protected in a small device, to a homeowner’s source of records.
