Writing And Language Arts Analysis

Writing, and language arts are one of the most influential and creative subjects in school. Writing allows for students to think outside the box, they can take their ideas and thoughts and share them with an audience. Teaching language arts however, is difficult because there can be so many abilities in a classroom, and to make sure everyone is getting the academic knowledge they need. Another problem as stated by Routman (2005) is “one of the toughest parts of teaching writing is that, we teachers haven’t had many positive writing experiences in our own schooling.” The biggest thing that I want to make sure I do when teaching writing and language arts in the future is having a positive attitude toward it. Teachers are models for students, …show more content…
It is first going to take positive trusting relationships with each student, and as a whole class. Creating an environment that suits working in small group is going to take trust, and positivity that the groups that are put together will be on task and successful. Routman states (2005) that “ the more peer-interaction was spontaneous and less teacher directed, the better the outcomes in the writing process.” Writing can be very effective when the ability to communicate and bounce ideas off one another can occur. Having students just sitting at their desks writing from a prompt is not effective writing strategy, it may get the work done that is needed but it take the fun, and the positive creative interaction out of the writing process. Once you lose the positive attitude and environment in a classroom, it becomes so much harder for the teacher and the students to be on their …show more content…
However, if the teacher can be positive and interested in these subjects, the students are more likely to be interested. I plan on implementing lots of small group work, give them lots of options, and the usage of videos and other technologies because first graders are positively affected by all of these implications. Setting high achievable expectations and creating positive relationships with the students needs to occur first and foremost before any successful learning can occur. When these are set, understanding individual interests, strengths, etc. will allow me to be able to implement the best strategies to teach the standards and information that first grade students need to

Life is short. That is the simple and unforgiving fact that cannot be avoided. It can often pass by as quickly as it comes when noses are buried in our cell phones instead of observing and appreciating the changing of seasons or the orange-purple sunset that concludes each day. That one idea— to pay attention— is what drives Alice Steinbach 's philosophy on writing along with a collection of other tactics taught to her by her ninth grade creative writing teacher Miss Dennis, which is showcased in her essay "The Miss Dennis School of Writing". Steinbach creates a well-rounded philosophy consisting of many elements throughout the essay.…

In this short story, “Two Kinds”, the main character, Jing-Mei Woo, also known as June, is forced by her mother, Mrs. Woo on learning how to play the piano and be the ultimate best. Mrs.Woo doesn’t really give Jing-Mei a choice, she wants to be able to brag about her daughter's “natural pride”. I hope one day my writing will be proficient enough that I will no longer have these current struggles. Although, I do have to say that these writing conflicts have made me a stronger writer because I picked up new strategies along the way. I’m absolutely thankful that I got the chance to write about the subjects I wanted to; I no longer whined about how long the essay was supposed to be because I knew how enlivened the writing process was going to be. Overall, it was quite the writing experienced and it wasn't as horrid as I though it was going to be.…

The most crucial step of my writing processes is letting my mind go wild and my fingers move freely. Whenever I write anything, I always let myself write whatever is on my mind at that exact second. Even if it doesn’t make 100% sense or isn’t exactly on topic, I’ll type it out. When I was writing my essay, I didn’t stop to fix anything until the very end. When I finished writing, I looked for mistakes.…

When entering college and finishing my first essay, I realized my process wasn’t good enough in order to write a good essay. When doing my first narrative and comparing my narrative to the article “Thirty-eight who saw murder,” my process was reading thoroughly over the article and writing a reading report of the reading which it was included in the beginning of my introduction as seen in the image below. Afterwards, I just started finishing my introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. In addition, when finishing my first draft I revised it as well as from my instructor as shown in the black marks below. From the individual conference with my instructor, it is shown in the image that I needed to fix almost my whole introduction.…

Every writer has wondered why they practice their craft, including myself. School has always been where the majority of my writing endeavors have taken place. I often fear that if I were not graded on my assignments, if I was free to submit whatever quality of work I chose, that I would not be a good writer. The doubt in my mind tells me that I write only for getting good grades, but that is not true. While school is a factor, I write mainly because I enjoy it, and because it is a place where I can organize and extend my thinking.…

My writing process coming into junior year was quite flawed and would go moderately like this: I would try and start with some hook that at least sounded like it related to the topic I was assigned. I then added a thesis that did not sound like total trash that included exactly what I planned to discuss. As I wrote the rest of my essays, I would sometimes realize there was something I felt added to the argument’s appeal, and after adding it to the body paragraphs, I summed it up in a couple words and squeezed it into my thesis. That was about the maximum amount of revising I would do for my essays. My decently crafted essays contained simple diction with a few SAT words I remembered while writing thrown in awkwardly.…

“Diving In: An Introduction to Basic Writing” by Mina Shaughnessy In this article, Shaughnessy argues that educators need to start examining their own teaching and learning processes and the complex and contextual needs of their students, instead of focusing on what students can be doing differently. She points out that basic writing students are not behind and need to “catch up” to any particular level, but there must been a more effective means of communication needs to be established between the students and teachers (291). Shaughnessy presents four stages of development as a basic writer instructor and explains how educators move through these stages before becoming competent to teach basic writing. The first stage called “Guarding the…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

Throughout the entire book a sense of separation is woven throughout. A main conflict and theme in The Help by Kathryn Stockett is racism. The white people manipulate the colored people, they are their maids, and they are merely seen as the help. The colored men and women are not viewed as humans with feelings and valid opinions just as objects and people that can cook and clean. So when people think that they are better than another person because of their race, their skin color, or their social class there will be contention and problems among people.…
