Potential relationships between ethnicity and/or race in the school work field for teachers and leaders can derive from a misunderstanding and difference in backgrounds. In urban areas, some staff members encounter students from different cultures and ethnic groups. This contrast in beliefs can immediately cause issues and feelings of superiority/inferiority. According to Sehgal, Jefferies, Rappaport (2017) “some potential issues can be mispronunciation of names, stereotypical clichés, and educators being hypervigilant of the students in all school settings” (pg. 51-55). These types of interactions can cause for negative feelings to develop with the students and families. Some of the interactions may also be heightened, due to the students …show more content…
According to Sloan (2012), workplace stress can also lead to higher rates of illness absenteeism, and a drop in productivity. Therefore, some employers are looking for ways to reduce stress through;

Health and wellness services

Fitness classes

Relaxation seminars

My current building periodically hosts a massage therapy day, where therapists come in and perform services for staff. Although it is not an extensive massage, it at least allows staff to be mindful of the fact that they need to allot some time for personal relaxation.

One effective method for all to use (teachers and administrators), in order to reduce stress, is to realize that stress does not result from events that take place in your classroom, school, or life. Stress results from what you say to yourself about those events (Singer 2013). Self-talk is something that we often encourage our students to use, in most where they may not feel as confident. However, taking control of our internal dialogue can often help us work through these moments where those thoughts are beginning to take control of our mind and body
