In businesses today, leaders are missing the mark more and more these days when it comes to keeping their employees happy. Currently, organizations are more diverse than in years past. This means that the things that kept employees happy and loyal in the past, may not work in today’s businesses. The standard employer/employee relationship of the past has changed tremendously. According to Smith, G.P. (2012), “Employees are living in a growing economy and have almost limitless job opportunities. This combination of factors has created an environment where the business needs its employees more than the employees need the business.” Employees today seek recognition from their employees, whether it is monetary or non-monetary. Employees are vital to a thriving organization. Employees assist their employers creatively, marketing, selling and distributing goods and services, along with providing customer service. At Trustmark there are many ways in which an employee can receive recognition for a job well done or just as a token of appreciation for their continued loyalty.

Task conflict concerns conflicts between persons linked by a specific task. The conflict occurs because of difference of opinions, perspectives, choices and suggested modifications by the members of the team. Having a small to moderate amount of constant task conflict can be deemed beneficial for the business because it encourages creativeness, strong competition and offers the opportunity of an improved result because of continuous debates and various viewpoints. Also with task conflict, people are often more satisfied within the team. This is because each member feels that their opinions are being heard.
