The world weather as you know it is becoming unstable. The winters lasting longer than they should, summers being extremely hot, odd weather patterns these are all because the ozone layer is disappearing from us using fossil fuels as power sources. There are ways to preserve the part of the ozone layer we have left and that is to use sustainable energy sources. There are many ways of sustainable energy: solar, thermal, wave, water, and more. Some of the sustainable energies produce greenhouse gasses that help protect the ozone layer. Sustainable energy is from natural energy that can be restored “Sustainable energy, also sometimes called “renewable energy,” refers to sources of energy that are naturally occurring and regenerate at a rapid rate” (Codington-Lacerte). Since they regenerate they never truly go away they just time to restore. There are actually 8 ways of producing sustainable energy: solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, OTEC, tidal, biomass, and hydrogen. “The conventional energy sources for electric power generation, heating and cooling systems, and transportation are fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) and nuclear power” (Codington-Lacerte). Although we use fossil fuels for those we could also use sustainable energy for them and also for others. Solar power can be used for heating and electricity, Wind power can be used for electricity, Geothermal Power can be used for electricity and heat, and Ocean power can be used for electricity: all those can be used in place of fossil fuels. There are many different types of renewable energy types “Although both wind and solar power have expanded across the United States and become more cost-competitive with fossil fuels, they are still emerging industries that could decline without more consistent policy support” (Power). As long as people keep looking deeper into sustainable energy the industries will keep thriving to replace the use of fossil fuels. As of today ”Natural gas and oil, for example, have benefited from more than a century of federal subsidies supporting research and development, increased production, fuel transportation, and facility construction” (Power). The replacement of fossil fuels has also slowed down the use of the remaining natural oil left on earth. We know that natural oil is a renewable resource but it just doesn’t restore itself as fast as the other natural resources and it destroys the ozone layer unlike the others.
