Personal Narrative: What Kind Of Super Power

Don’t know if it is a gender thing or maybe my Latin culture gives me a certain degree of flexibility and adaptability. So, it’s not realizing the problem exactly is more a challenge on how to solve it. Recently, I’ve become very insecure when making decisions (of any kind), so my mind goes in to this crazy doubtful train of thought:
“I’m I changing in the right direction? Is this what I really want? To whom do I compare myself to in order to know if I am succeeding or doing things right?

Being born in to a family business is quite difficult, because it feels like it’s a part of you, another limb, it’s embedded in to your DNA. You feel this sense of attachment and responsibility that blinds you completely. Would I be actually doing this if I didn’t have a family owned business? Probably not, can I change that right now? No.

After watching some gameplay videos for the new ps4 game Until Dawn, I was reminded of a strange term I had once heard, the butterfly effect. Upon seeing this, I decided to do some research to find out more about it. The Chaos theory more commonly called the butterfly effect summarized by Edward Lorenz is a branch of mathematics that deals with complex systems whose behaviour is highly sensitive to slight changes in conditions, so that small alterations can give rise to strikingly great consequences. With this, I thought a many life decisions that I had made, both large and small and thought of how they affected my life and how different my life would be if I had chosen to take another path. I am a Christian and with further thought, came to…

The overarching topic from the readings for this week is that family climate plays a critical role in the success and longevity of family businesses. This topic is spread over nearly every reading for the week, including that from the textbook. In the article by Prof. Miller (from Frontiers in Psychology), family climate is broken down into three main categories: intergenerational style, family cohesion, and family process. From the readings, along with the research by Prof. Miller, it can be concluded that these three categories are indeed the principals upon which the road to success lies for family businesses. For as much chaos that may have been ingrained into my family there was something more that we all might have overlooked and that was the life that our family posed. Good, bad or ugly my family was full of life. I recall it was always busy, moving forward with getting the task at hand done - work was essential if not the most pertinent thing. My parents both born during the time of the great depression had grown up in a very changing time in Americas history, it was a time when men were considered the head of the household, usually the breadwinners while the women stayed home and tended to the family. A time when hard work was expected, respect was demanded and traditional values were strong.…
