The Importance Of Successment

A sense of meaningfulness is moderately rewarding for me. I like feeling as if the work I am doing is for a purpose. However, it is not nearly as rewarding as actually progressing towards that purpose. Achievement is more important to me than opportunity. For me, the opportunity to do something meaningful is not nearly as fulfilling as progressing towards a meaningful purpose. Yet, if I do not feel like my work has much of a purpose, I will be very discouraged and will not perform with a high quality. So, it is vital that a manager makes sure that I do not fall into this thought process. They ought to make clear that my work helps fulfill a greater purpose. Above that, though, they need to ensure that they do not make me feel as if my work …show more content…
Since I am so goal and progress oriented, it would be good for me to have a job where there are a lot of clear marks of progress that I can see. Since there can be levels of competence in any job, that would not be a large factor in considering a career path. However, I would need to make sure I would feel as if I had the potential to be competent at whatever job I had. Any job where I could achieve would be ideal. Since I am both a human resources major and a missional ministries major, there are a lot of options as to what my career could look like. Yet, in all of these options, I see ways in which I could be intrinsically motivated through achievement. I will seek to be so competent at whatever I am doing that it actually causes my coworkers to improve their quality of work as …show more content…
If possible I would show an employee the series of events they were a part of that caused a greater purpose to be fulfilled. With the dishes at camp example, it works like this. Since I cleaned the dishes well, the guests have clean plates and are not distracted by what is on their plate. Due to this, they can focus on the relaxation they get at camp and also on their relationship with God (since it is a Bible camp). I would also set up milestones for the employees to complete, and acknowledge when they do so. The recognition will help them realize that progress is occurring. Moreover, I would delegate tasks to employees and lead them to decide how to best complete the tasks. If they do a good job, I would acknowledge that so that they know they are competent at the work they are

In reading the article by Nick Obolensky, I could truly resonate with some of his points in purpose. As an individual, I am all about purpose. Purpose usually sets the stage for me and I decide right off if I am in or out. Essentially, purpose is what motivates people and it also determines how committed certain individuals will be to the task, team or organization. You also have to think about how purpose gives instruction, it is like the vehicle that is driving the task, team or organization.…

Everyone’s notions of success differ because individuals perceive success based on their own experiences with various environmental influences. As analyzed by Carol S. Dweck in her article “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”, there are two main mental outlooks that affect people that are classified as growth and fixed mindsets. Dweck states that people with fixed mindsets identify success as a result of their inherited intelligence, and the ability to avoid failure at all costs. Hence, a fixed mindset is the belief that one’s skills are carved in stone rather than practiced and nourished. In contrast, a growth mindset seeks challenges and views failures as an opportunity to grow and develop better skills, and that failure is not evidence…

It stands to reason the more enjoyable the workspace, the more enthusiastic everyone will be in reaching goals and achieving greatness. In light of this, leaders must know how to revel in the triumphs of their group, create an enjoyable (key word being joy) workplace for their employees, as well as be able to remind their people why they are part of the business in the first place. Kouzes and Posner (2008) quote William Hwang, who states, “I have learned over the years that it is not the size of the gesture that is important, but the simple fact that you noticed someone’s contributions” (p. 127). At times, it is beneficial to let followers know they have been recognized for their hard work and dedication.…

In everyday life, it is important to overcome obstacles and complete tasks that one may not wish to complete. Managerial Psychology and Motivation How psychology plays a role in the workplace “Social Psychology, branch of psychology concerned with the scientific study of the behavior of individuals as influenced, directly or indirectly, by social stimuli. Social psychologists are interested in the thinking, emotions, desires, and judgments of individuals, as well as in their overt behavior. An individual’s inner states can be inferred only from some form of observable behavior. Research has also proved that people are affected by social stimuli whether or not they are actually in the presence of others and that virtually everything an individual does or experiences is influenced to some extent by present or previous social contacts,” (Vizetelly 1).…
