I like to take calculated risks if I know that they will pay off in the end and result in being different from what others expect. I think that being a team leader requires taking risks and straying off the path to produce a different result. Also, this allows for the team to grow and it allows us to discover talents that we may not know we have. Additionally, if taking risks doesn 't pay off, it results in the team becoming stronger and we can learn from these mistakes. I am a person that doesn 't use failures as something to be discouraged by, it only allows you become stronger and it is something you can learn from. Herb Brooks knew the task would be difficult so he had to form his team in an unconventional way so he had to approach being a coach from a different perspective. During the preliminary stage of choosing the players, Herb disregarded choosing what some called the best players. He states that, “It’s not about choosing the best players, but the right ones.” He knew that in order to build a successful team, he had to stray from the norm and venture into a different mindset to build a winning team. Although there was some kickback to how Herb was constructing his team, he trusted his intuition because he knew what he wanted in his team. Because he was a former ice hockey player who almost made the Olympic team, Herb studied and had a vision on how he wanted his team to look. In order for the team to produce different results, Herb had to coach the team in a different way. Regardless of any challenges or consequences that could have plagued the team or Herb, he was always focused on the goal. He trusted himself enough to know what he was doing, and he was confident his in vision and that he could take the team to the Olympics and beat the reigning Soviet
