We can see that Steve Jobs was a true outlier in his day and age. He didn’t just become successful overnight; he had to be determined and hardworking. Like Malcolm Gladwell once said in his book “Outliers,” “Success is not a random act. It arises out of a predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.” His determination to do something with his life was a complete success because of many different things. For one, the time period of when he was born was just starting to explore the new possibilities of technology. He took the opportunity that was given and achieved great things with what he had. Another thing that helped him greatly was his determination. Jobs clearly struggled when he first wanted to become a businessman. Like most others in the field, he had ups and downs when working. The thing that separated him from others was that when he got discouraged, he wouldn’t let that get him down. Always worrying about the workforce, college expenses, if they can get a good job and much more. Students can attest to, if they let themselves get discouraged for too long it’s like setting yourself up for failure. For instance, take any successful person for example, 100% of the time they will say if asked that at one point or another they have been overwhelmed or discouraged in some way. What makes a true success is having those small achievements of pushing past those other feelings of quitting. Never quitting and always practicing and pushing forward, that 's a true success in itself. Just like Malcolm said in “Outliers,” “Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.”
Overall, if there is one thing that students should know about success, it is that success doesn 't come overnight. That doesn 't mean students should get discouraged and start freaking out. Success can be the small things sometimes, individual achievements in pursuit of a bigger/larger goal.
