1. When did you first realize that your family belonged to a certain group of people (African-American)?
I first realized that my family belonged to a certain group of people when I was introduced to the different races and ethnicities. Personally, I believe I became conscious about bung African American in elementary school. As a young child race and skin color had no meaning, but once introduced to them I realized that we all have different backgrounds.

I was always told that I should treat people the way I wanted to be treated no matter their skin color. My mom and other members of my family have a lot of friends of other ethnic backgrounds, and they were treated as family. Race has no significance in what I was taught about people of other groups.

Racial superiority (white privilege): consists of white upper class men who have access to elite social and business connections that are not available to other.
