The Importance Of Success In Writing

Trying something new makes you learn a lot about yourself because it is a chance for you to take a risk on a task you do not know. Most are afraid of failure, not being good enough, yet there are some people who like the challenge, people like me. I have an attachment to learning ideas that I do not already know, I admire the concept of being smarter than I was yesterday. With this English college class, I challenged myself because I did not if I was prepared for this type of work or not. I grew from the first day to the last because I allowed myself the chance to make mistakes and the steps to try to improve. Overall, I learned how to become a better writer and how to get a point across in a respectful, educated matter with little to no errors. …show more content…
I would also run it in websites like grammarly.com and paperrater.com so I could get their suggestions as well because sometimes I skim past some simple grammar errors like misspelling a word or forgetting to put a comma after a transition word. I did this every time I finished an essay to make sure that I got the best grade I possibly could. This was very effective because it made me get a glance at things that I did not catch and to see my essay from another point of view with the English …show more content…
We never used outside sources, so this was the first exposure that I ever had so it was challenging at first trying to understand what those were. Those are a big part of writing because as a writer you want to be taken seriously, one can’t do that if they use sources like Wikipedia and The Huffington Post. I really came to terms with those on the research paper because that was the biggest grade and I wanted to make sure that everything was correct. I used the APA format on every paper that we had to write because I was not thinking of becoming an English major. At first, it was confusing because I had never done that format before but now I actually prefer it. When I wrote my romance essay, that was the first official time I was using it and my abstract was too long and my sources were incorrect, but after you gave me those comments I made sure to correct them the next time we had an essay

After doing that draft, I would rewrite it, so it can have all the correct format and grammars. In all the essay that I have written like Words Are Powerful and American Society’s Version of Beauty, I have been able to use that tactic in order to get my thoughts on the readings. It provided me with enough information to write my ideas into proper…

    24. You use appropriate language, avoiding wordiness, while giving the reader all necessary information in strict APA style. I think I would have somewhat trouble with this one because In the past when I was here APA style confused me a lot when it came down to reference. I would usually just copy and paste the link or try to put it in the format and it still didn’t work so it kind of cost me a lot in my classes and my grades.…

Oh Boy… Another Paper Is Due Whether in English or in History, in college or in high school, we have all faced the daunting moment when we are assigned the dreaded multi-page paper. For most, this assignment is challenging from the get-go, because from the start, our only aspiration is to get it done and get a good grade. At least, this is my mindset when approaching a paper. However, is it necessary for writing to be such a challenge? Fortunately, there are many professionals who have felt the exact way we have, including procrastination and the ever-asked “can I triple space my lines?”…

One of my main concerns about this class is the APA style reference format; due to APA style never being instructed to me. My former class work and experiences have always consisted of using the MLA style which is what I am comfortable using. I have not used the MLA style in some time but I remember enough about it to use the style again. The last time I had to use the MLA reference style was my high school English class and a college level composition…

I had no idea what APA format was or how to cite properly. However, the APA citations links that my professor provided were very useful and helped me be successful with the rest of my essays. The videos guided me step by step and were very simple to understand other different type of formats such as MLA, and Chicago. Another resource that was very helpful, were the online class discussions. Online discussions not only helped me interact with my classmates, but helped me broaden my knowledge about the material.…

Isaac, you brought up many good details that could certainly be overlooked by learners as we work feverishly to write the body of the essay. I think it is very important to go through the APA manual as there are so many specific rules that must be adhered to throughout the scholarly work. It feels rather strange for me to write in APA style as it is a learned skill. Each time I review the manual I learn something new. Reading your post reminded me of a professor who once told me, “The devil is in the details”.…

I chose to revise the first and forth essay. I chose these because they are the shortest essays. I know you wanted me to revise my research essay because I did not have parenthetical citations, but during my writing center visit I asked about those and I learned where they should be and how they should look. When I revised my papers I tried to think about the questions someone else who is not familiar with the topics would ask about my papers and I answered them.…

Writing is a tool. Like a hammer you use to put nails into walls, or a dart you use to hit the bullseye, a pen or a computer can be utilized for convenience, or like a knife used to kill, it can be used as a weapon. Of the many uses of writing, I believe the most effective is when it’s being used as a tool to communicate with people. I once had the misfortune of coming across a person on the internet who didn’t believe that people with autism should be allowed to be in romantic relationships with people without autism. This person, whom I shall refer to as Sally, wrote that autistic people were mentally deficient and therefore not mature or intelligent enough to ever find love.…

I always had trouble with grammar and word structure when it came to writing. There would be times when I would write a paper and have other people look over it and they say that it’s good and don’t really mark or actually give critique to my writing. For this goal, I said that I would attend the writing center, talk to my English professor, and find books that would help with my writing. The first thing I did was talk to my professor about some of the grammar problems that I had with my papers.…
