The Importance Of Success In Writing

Trying something new makes you learn a lot about yourself because it is a chance for you to take a risk on a task you do not know. Most are afraid of failure, not being good enough, yet there are some people who like the challenge, people like me. I have an attachment to learning ideas that I do not already know, I admire the concept of being smarter than I was yesterday. With this English college class, I challenged myself because I did not if I was prepared for this type of work or not. I grew from the first day to the last because I allowed myself the chance to make mistakes and the steps to try to improve. Overall, I learned how to become a better writer and how to get a point across in a respectful, educated matter with little to no errors. …show more content…
I would also run it in websites like grammarly.com and paperrater.com so I could get their suggestions as well because sometimes I skim past some simple grammar errors like misspelling a word or forgetting to put a comma after a transition word. I did this every time I finished an essay to make sure that I got the best grade I possibly could. This was very effective because it made me get a glance at things that I did not catch and to see my essay from another point of view with the English …show more content…
We never used outside sources, so this was the first exposure that I ever had so it was challenging at first trying to understand what those were. Those are a big part of writing because as a writer you want to be taken seriously, one can’t do that if they use sources like Wikipedia and The Huffington Post. I really came to terms with those on the research paper because that was the biggest grade and I wanted to make sure that everything was correct. I used the APA format on every paper that we had to write because I was not thinking of becoming an English major. At first, it was confusing because I had never done that format before but now I actually prefer it. When I wrote my romance essay, that was the first official time I was using it and my abstract was too long and my sources were incorrect, but after you gave me those comments I made sure to correct them the next time we had an essay

I thought I would not make it through high school. However, I did not always hate writing. When I first learned to write my name I was so proud and happy. Then of course when I got to school there they’d teach us to make sentences. It was fun because…

I looked at the corrections/suggestions that Professor Martin made on my essay, and I made my revisions according to his notes. At certain times, it was difficult to read his handwriting, but I made the revisions to the best of my ability. First, I made simple grammatical corrections such as adding commas, changing some tenses, and fixing easily mistaken words such as changing the word “site” to “sight”. Then, I tackled adding more detailed paragraphs, such as describing Ms. Kitty, a net, the cabins, the sugar cane field, the animals, and the signs. Next, some sentences had a repetitive sentence structure.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Although it was my favorite, it was definitely not my best. I wrote my essay and felt like it was complete and worthy to turn in. Little did I know that was not the case.…

So writing and editing the essay I chose showed me that there is plenty of room to improve. My original plan was simple and just make small changes, but as I read my work I grew disappointed in myself. I knew that a lot of my mistakes where things that I looked over because I was distracted. Although I know my weakness when it comes to writing I try to stay optimistic with my work. I know if I keep writing I can improve and be more detailed when it comes to checking for…

With the peer feedback I was able to take what was wrong with my paper and fix it before turning it in for a final grade which I found as excellent. This allowed me to change any errors that I had not previously come across. Also producing a mid-draft allowed me to go back and re-read my essay after not having it in front of me for some time. It allowed me to re-read my essay fresh allowing me to produce new ideas and thoughts I could put into my essays. I believe this class helped me improve on my writing as a whole.…

In the beginning the semester, Professor Weaver began with a list of questions. This is a good way to quickly learn about new students, while simultaneously learning their opinion on English and writing. For someone like me, who is definitely not a fan of writing, the answers to the questions posed were respectfully, no, when it is over, and finding the desire to begin. Although, I do not particularly have an affinity for writing I still believe that I deserve to pass ENG1020. I am a motivated student and I have consistently achieved high grades in the assignments.…

The semester is almost over now. I took Composition and rhetoric, obviously, because it is a compulsory course, but further than that I was truly excited to see what it could offer. English has always been my passion and a language I wanted to learn to perfection. I am glad to say that this course did not disappoint; it has been a class that helped me improved my writing abilities, as much as my comprehension skills. Whenever we desire to learn a new language it can be challenging, putting our thoughts and ideas in paper is complicated and even more when you do not do it in your mother tongue.…

Before I would not have a process on how to write an essay I would just do it and turn it in thinking it was great how it is but in writing an essay it is never finalize as I learned from Dr. Moreno because there is so much more that can be done. As a result, my writing has improved so much since part A because I learned to have a process for writing such as others editing my work and brainstorming. My writing still needs work because I still have trouble with academic vocabulary that I will expand on soon. In the future for my writing I would love to see it better than it is now because it is the one thing that is going to be used for the rest of my life. Overall, this class taught me so much such as research, conducting data, and blogs.…

I also feel a lot more confident to proofread another’s paper. Before taking this course I almost felt as it I was doing the person an injustice by proofing their paper, because I honestly had no clue what I was looking for. Aside, from the grammatical and meaning part of writing an essay this course has given me something very special and that is a love of writing. I never in a million years thought I would utter those words, but I actually have really enjoying writing papers for this class. Looking back on this past semester, though I still have room for improvement with some grammatical issues and other writing errors, I still believe I deserve an A for my…
