Breda, The Netherlands — Exactly one month ago, the students of the Academy for Leisure came back from their wonderful study trip to Vancouver and Vancouver Island. They have spent the first five days on Vancouver Island, focusing on the Vancouver Island University and the beautiful nature including 800-year-old trees and outstanding waterfalls. The other six days they went to Vancouver Downtown where they have visited interesting companies related to the leisure sector and went to an impressive ice hockey game. Therefore the essence of this study trip is to not only give you educational information about the leisure supply of Vancouver but also to provide you with a taste of the actual leisure activities which you can enjoy with your fellow students and friends. A study trip makes sure that the students meet new people and make new friends with which you can share these unforgettable experiences with which you will remember for a lifetime. A study trip gives students lots of opportunities to practise their social skills. Making new friends can happen with local people, but especially with the other students on the trip who they never really got to know until now. This happened this year as well, the group of 39 students was divided in three different groups in the beginning, but at the end of the trip they all got along. The reason why Vancouver is better for this than other locations, is because the mixture between students was bigger. In Switzerland for example, there were only international event management students. In Vancouver, there was a mixture between (international) event management and (international) leisure management, both Dutch and English educations. Would you not be happy to meet new people and make new friends? Next to that, study trips are great for CV building. Employers value students …show more content…
One of the places the students have visited in their individual time is Grouse Mountain, which is one of the most beautiful locations that has been visited. On the last Friday of the trip, the students had a day off. Some of the students, a group of around 13 students, decided to go to Grouse Mountain. Grouse Mountain is a mountain of 1.231 meters altitude. They could go by ski lift for three minutes, or they could hike for two hours. The adventurous students chose to hike, which they thought was super heavy but worth every step! In the beginning, they kept going with high speed, but they quickly found out that they were not able to keep this up. This is why they decided to go a bit slower and enjoy the view more. After two hours they reached the top, and the view was amazing. One of the students described the view as: “I have never seen anything as beautiful as this view!” The students started the hike with normal weather, with beautiful green trees around them. But, after one hour the weather started to change. It started snowing and their surroundings began to turn white. At the top of the mountain, the view was

After hiking about 60 vertical feet we knew that it was going to take us some time and more than a few breaks in order to reach the top. After taking 15 minutes to reach the top we sat down to catch our breath and enjoy the amazing view. It was a clear day and we could see the whole way to the horizon in every direction. While the trip was rather expensive I would recommend every snowboarder and skier have an experience similar to this, I would absolutely go again if I had the chance, there is nothing like going to a large resort and spending several days doing nothing but hitting the…

Abby and I were about done with this madness after a couple of hikers past us then Tim said, “This is going to take close to an hour and a half to get to the top by biking, and hiking would only take twenty minutes.” Abby and I rode back down to the lift with my dad following us, but Tim and Dylan still had their minds set to getting to the top of the mountain. Since we didn’t want to wait for the other two, us three started back down the way we went before. My dad wanted to take a different blue trail this time; the trail was more advanced than the other. This one had bulky rocks, jagged holes, and the turns were very sharp. By the time we found the green trail the sky had extensive rain clouds and was turning into a dark blue.…
