In “The Decline in Study Times”, Babcock and Marks mentions how other studies shown how employers today rely less on college grades for hiring decisions. Today, grades in college will not matter unless the college student is planning on going to graduate school. So many college students are electing to study less because a “C” can get a degree. This causes college students to aim to reach the minimum requirements to obtain their degree. When I first entered college, I strived to receive a 4.0 GPA every semester. Then, I was told I can still get my degree with C’s on my transcript. So I started dedicating less time to studying, since there was really incentive for receiving A’s on everything. I found it unnecessary to spend countless hours every day in my dorm room studying, if employers will not look at my grades and only just my degree. So my goal was to aim for at least a C on every test. The majority of public four year colleges only requires students to make a 2.0 each semester to keep attending the university. The public is excepting less and less of college students that students are electing not to study. Most college students just only wish to meet the basic requirements necessary to reach their goals. Many college students neglect going to extra mile because there is no incentive for studying. So many students feel that studying is a waste of time. Also the generation of college students has changed drastically from what it was in the past. Many of today’s college students have to juggle between leisure time, work, studying and sleep. While past generation did not face these problems. Students today often struggle to with time management, having to juggle studying between work and leisure.
