The Effects Of Nutrition On My Body

Improved Essays
As a college athlete, I know that it is important to eat at least three nutritious meals and exercise at least once a day. Sticking to a healthy diet sounds a lot easier than it actually is. When trying to maintain a healthy diet, it is important to watch your calorie intake. I must admit, after a long day of practice I do not think about eating foods such as salads, vegetables, or anything healthy in that matter. I considered that since I spend three to four hours a day on the ball field sweating and exercising, the foods I eat does not truly have a negative effect on my body, which is where I went wrong.
One of my major issues with my nutrition intake is that I snack a lot between meals. If I am just sitting around watching TV or doing homework, I always have a snack handy to eat simply because it is there. I always tell myself if I just eat a few chips, or a small amount of food then I will be fine, but of course those few chips turn into a whole bag of chips. Eating a lot of candy is also another big

Since I began college, I have gotten into the habit of staying up late, although I have early morning classes. Homework procrastination is the main difficulty when it comes to my sleep schedule. It is necessary to get at least eight hours of sleep during a night at rest. I typically get about six hours on a normal week day. Sleep deficiency is incredibly unhealthy for myself because I lack the energy to perform a whole day, including class attendance and softball. Occasionally, if I am tired, I will skip a class to take a nap instead. This is not beneficial to me nor to my grades for that class. My plan to change this is to get in the bed earlier. In order to carry this out, I will get my homework done during my class breaks and will plan on having them done by around 9:00 PM. If I begin to adjust to this schedule, I will start making it a natural habit instead of having to force myself to stay

I can tell you that school starts at eight forty which means I have to be awake and in the shower by eight o’clock at the latest and out the door by eight thirty. I can also tell you that once I finish work, practice, and have my paper in by the eleven fifty-nine deadline, which I usually cut very close I can get to bed at around twelve thirty and get seven and a half hours of sleep, nowhere near the recommended ten. Some of this is my fault, I could better utilize class time and maybe get my paper in a little earlier, but if everything goes right, which it never does, I still have to work until at least eight and squeeze two or three hours of laps in the pool, if I try my hardest I can sleep for nine hours, still not quite ten, but close. My school has relatively late start times , and although my schedule is busier than most I would need to be in bed by ten to reach the recommended minimum amount of sleep, and for the average teenager, the brain doesn't start releasing the hormones that cause sleep until ten thirty leaving the majority of the teenage population severely sleep…

The majority, if not all, elementary/middle schools have an after school program. These certain programs are made for students who may have to arrive at school earlier than it starts, or stay after when everyone has been dismissed for the day. Students usually stay if their parents have a certain schedule that doesn’t exactly agree with the school schedule, or simply if the student couldn’t find a ride home. Although the after school program was made only for the benefit of students and parents, I don’t like going.
