How far will one go to get ahead in the classroom? Staying after school late for tutoring, not going to recess to study, or even cutting out television and social media at home to look over class work to study. Those are all great ways to get ahead of your classmates. Going far enough to get up early on a Saturday morning to attend a school program is going the extra mile to be successful in school. Giving up six weeks of your summer to stay on campus of a University to attend classes each morning definitely describes going beyond the extra mile to stay dedicated to becoming successful in life and in the classroom.

Being around others with the same goals as one revolves in a positive outcome with learning. Member of Upward Bound are about learning and staying on task. Once the outreach specialists finished explaining to everyone what the program consist of and what it offers to students. I instantly knew I had to get accepted into Upward Bound. This was the most convenient program that I desired in my life at the time. Upward Bound remained everything I wanted. To get accepted I had to attend a meeting, fill out paperwork and also take an intelligent placement test. Being responsible is a huge part of being in this program. Continuing to stay in Upward Bound I have to attend class regularly and take advantage of the extra learning I am receiving. Learning how to manage my time wisely is something knew I learned fast. Having to up early on Saturday mornings started to bother me tremendously. I stood not as focused as I needed to be because of lack of sleep. I then had to start going to sleep earlier than what I was used to doing to reflect being ready to learn. Learning how to be responsible and managing my time significantly has shaped me into a mature young lady. I am going to learn more and more each time I walk onto Southeastern Louisiana University.
