At one point in most everyone's life they dream of making a difference in their community. They want to make it a better place. This is one of many dreams that I wish to accomplish. My plan is to use this scholarship to help set a better example for the younger generation in my tribal community. My hope is that by attending college and bettering myself, then the youth within the tribe will follow my lead and decide to do the same; whether it be going to college one day or to just be a better person in general.…

I feel that I should be awarded the "Courage To Grow" scholarship because I truly have the courage to grow. Unlike many others my age, I am a strong believer in growth. I am fully aware that without continual growth, I will never be able to make a change in society. Having the courage to grow means being willing to try new things while not being afraid of failure. If I am awarded this scholarship, my passion and courage for growth will always be lively.…
“Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.” Due to the ever increasing amount of procrastinators in society, nothing gets done. This quote teaches that no matter what circumstance maybe, doesn’t give you a reason to give up on life. Making excuses is the death to all blessings that God wants to give us and we hold our own selves back by constantly pushing back the essentials of life.…
If you were on the board of a scholarship selection committee 20 years from now, would you award the 17-year-old you a scholarship? Why or why not? With non-subject-specific scholarships such as this, one of the most significant components of an application is the student’s exhibition of motivation and enthusiasm for their intended field of study. If I were to be in charge of awarding scholarships to applying students, I firmly believe that I would acknowledge the potential and the drive for success within seventeen-year-old me, especially considering my interest in engineering.…

I am willing to bet that there are many astonishing young men and women who have applied for this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

I believe that I deserve the “Courage to Grow” Scholarship, because I’m very determined and take my education seriously. Both during college and high school I faced a series of obstacles such as living at a women’s shelter at the age of sixteen, the death of my grandmother and cousin my freshman and sophomore year of college, and attending counseling for emotional abuse and a risk for developing an eating disorder. I overcame each obstacle despite the mental stress. There were rough patches with my grades at the beginning of college, but I worked hard each semester to raise my GPA, and make honor roll. I’m a fist generation college student, and earned my associates in arts from Longview Community College, and will attend the University of…
The reason I chose this category was because my administrator gave me a list of scholarships for the month of October. When I was scanning the paper this specific scholarship caught my eye and I clicked on it. After I had read what the scholarship was about, as well as the organization, I decided I would apply. The reason why I am applying is because I have confidence in my experience with serving the community. Toward the end of my junior year of high school, I applied to be apart of student government.…

My parents came to the united states looking for a better future not for them but for the baby they carried in their arms, which was me. In the beginning we kept moving from family members houses, since my parents couldn’t afford paying rent. Eventually my parents had enough money to rent an apartment just for our family. Currently I live with both my parents and two younger sisters in that same small one room apartment. This has made it hard for me to study without getting distracted at home.…
For years upon years, major public universities in the United States have utilized funds provided to their institutions to award various scholarships to qualifying students. In most cases, many of the universities put this money to use by giving students merit-based scholarships depending on their high school achievements. Some of these awards are based on achievements like grade point average, standardized test scores, or community service projects with which the student has worked. For many years, this has been the ground scholarships were awarded on, but now this process may be endangered. Today, colleges are concerned with making sure every person is able to attend an institution of higher education.…
In second grade I gave up eating seafood because I wanted to be a marine biologist. My logic? I didn’t want to “eat what I worked with” as I studied the ocean. Ten years later and I feel even more enthused about our oceans.…
